The lecture has effectively challenged the passage on the topic of the teenage girl in a full-length portrait linking to Jane Austen, demonstrating that the evidences listed in the passage are not convincing at all.
First of all, despite the information shown in the reading material that in 1882, Austen’ family permitted to use this portrait as an illustration of Jane Austen, the listening part presents the different point of view, stating that in 1882, Jane Austen had been dead for almost 70 years, when none of her family members could actually see herself.
From this point, the content from the reading material is questioned by listening part.

What’s more, the second assumption from the author is that the portrait clearly resembles the one in the Cassandra’s sketch. Contrary to it, the speaker brings forward his evidence that the Austen’s family was so large that there were a lot of females at the same age as the teenage girl in the portrait, which can be viewed as another item of contradictory evidence against the author.

Finally, according to the professor, judging from the canvas, the portrait should be finished when Jane Austen was about 27 years old, which is much older than the girl in the portrait. Such a theory has argued against the writer that it’s painted when Jane Austen was the age of the girl in the painting. This is another part where the idea of the writer is totally groundless.
