The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is pleased to inform you that we have recommended to the Graduate School that you be admitted to the ECE graduate program for the Fall 2010 semester.
OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION OF ADMISSION: The Graduate School is the entity on the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) campus that officially admits students to the ECE graduate program; therefore, your acceptance is not official until you hear from the Graduate School directly. I strongly urge you to continually check the official status of your application by visiting the "Grad Application Status" window within the MyUW portal (https://my.wisc.edu). If you are new to the UW-Madison, you will first need to activate your NetID by visiting the NetID Account Activation site (https://www.mynetid.wisc.edu/activate). You will need your 10 digit UW-Madison campus ID number and your date of birth to complete the NetID activation process.
ADEQUATE FINANCIAL RESOURCES: International applicants are required to have adequate financial resources (http://info.gradsch.wisc.edu/admin/admissions/financialinfo.html) to cover their expenses for the duration of their studies at UW-Madison. The Graduate School will communicate with international applicants through the MyUW portal to request the necessary financial statements at the appropriate time.
FUNDAMENTALS REQUIREMENT: All master's students are required to fulfill the fundamentals requirement prior to receiving their M.S. degree. You must satisfy four of the five required areas to be completely exempt from the exam. Once you notify the ECE Graduate Admissions Team that you intend to enroll, your file will be reviewed for fundamentals exemptions and/or requirements. You will be notified of these results at that time; therefore, it is extremely important that you notify us of your enrollment intentions in a timely manner and keep us informed of any mailing or email address changes. The fundamentals requirement is not required for those seeking a PhD only.
FINANCIAL AID: If you have requested consideration for financial aid, you will be notified by mid-April for Fall or mid-December for Spring. Most first year students should plan to come with their own funds.
TA APPLICATION STATUS: A Test of Spoken English (TSE) or Speak Test is required for all non-native speakers of English. This score must be received by February 1 for fall consideration or October 31 for spring consideration. No exceptions are made. You will be notified if you receive a TA position by the end of April for fall or December for spring.
FELLOWSHIP STATUS: Those receiving fellowships for fall will be notified by April 1st or earlier. If you have not heard from us by that date, you are no longer being considered. There are usually no fellowships available for the spring.
RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS: You must apply directly to faculty in your area of expertise for research assistantships. These appointments are not awarded by the admissions committee. You can find faculty profiles on our Web site at: http://www.engr.wisc.edu/ece/faculty/
GRANTS INFORMATION COLLECTION (http://grants.library.wisc.edu/): The Grants Information Collection, located in Memorial Library at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is a collection of print and electronic materials that is open to the public. Collection users do their own research, but there are many resources for graduate students looking for funding for education and education-related programs in the United States.
We hope that you will choose to join us at the UW-Madison for your graduate studies.
