I agree with the speaker's contention that with soar development of our technology, so much is new and complex today. However, looking back of an understanding of the past really provides little guidance for living in the present? Absolutely not! No matter from science, education and politics, looking and researching history is pivotal and inevitable, if we desire to better our life and improve our society.
To begin with, history in science, in particular technology, provides valued treasure and premise in order current scientists to develop further latest technology. As Newton said that we could succeed because we stand on the shoulder of giants. If scientists only pursue into which they desire to research, but ignore the earlier experiences, they may take many mistakes and do some meaningless researches that previous scientists may also did. But if scientists could look back for an understanding of the past and built a system data based on the previous data about what they already research, they could effectively to achieve their destination and beyond others. Thus, researching history is much more vital for scientists to point out some advanced discovery or invention.
On the other perspective such as education, looking back history is also inevitable. Moreover, if we ignore the mistakes of previous education, the consequence is very huge-- influence the future of our society, because children actually are our future. For instance, the traditional teacher-centered educational system has a grave problem that it only provides knowledge which the school and teacher desire students to learn, but not the students truly prefer to study. That is to say, the traditional education ignores the personal interests of every student and fetters their future. Fortunately, education experts look back and realize that serious mistake, and then suggest a novel teacher-centered educational system. Thus, the quality of education throughly reformed for the reason that we look back and understand the mistake of the past.
Finally, in politics, looking back is also and even much more important than any other areas. How can our society, especially government improved from prehistory to modern society? That is based on the history events and previous politics. For example, from history, we all realize the importance of peace. Thus, we built UN to prevent war and preserve peace all over the world. Also, research history could also beg some mistakes. On the other hand, how can government encourage and promote the morale spirit of public? The effective way is compared with some historical events. For instance, America is suffering a huge financial crisis that almost tenth people lost their job. President Obama quoted many historical periods at his first State of the Union Address in order to encourage and promote the confidence of American. It is obviously have effect and indeed rebuild their confidence for the government. Thus, looking back for an understanding of the past history in politics not only can promote the confidence of public when they suffering difficult, but also could begs serious wrong and better our society.
While it would be tempting to concede that in some particular conditions, undue research history or straight use the previous experiences without any personal thinking is also problematic. For instance, many researches cannot find further breakthrough just because they tangle in the much more previous data and principles which fetter their own thinking and limited their personal idea. That is why some marvelous inventions just trigger from some occasional events, such as the invention of steam engine just based on the observation of boiling water jacking the pot lid.
In conclusion, we must emphasize the pivotal effect of looking back for an understanding of the past. They can guide us to better our society effectively. At the same time, we also cannot be fettered by so much previous data and experiences but without our personal opinion.
