4.8 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Students at university or in college should choose the most difficult classes even if they cannot get top grades (marks) in them.

There is a tendency that college students always choose courses that are interesting and easy to pass. So that they can get a high mark which is important for them to get a job or an oppertunity for further study. It is ture that easy class is a good choice because they never need to warry about the examination and can spend less time in studing. But in the long run, difficult class is better for a student even if the score may be low. Difficult classes require more time and efforts, and this process can improve our ability of learning and thinking.

In the first place, difficult classes can make students work harder. The duty of a student is learning. When someone is at college, he should try his best to learn knowledges. If a student choose an easy class, it equals that he spend less time on study and more time on entertainment. He needn't always learn that course throughout the term, but just spend much time for several days before the exam. In fact, he cannot learn the course well and will forget the knowledge soon after the exam. However, if the class is very difficult, the student will try his best to learn it, so he will become deligent. As I see, deligence is a good quality for a person which can lead to success, whatever he or she will do in the future.

In addition, difficult classes can improve our logic thinking and understandings. When you learn difficult classes, it is not enough to remember the theories or formulas. You should understand every part of them and how they come into being. This process is hard to get through, and you will meet many difficulties. But it makes you to think, to work out it. So that you can focus and think hard to get the answer. The more you think, the better logic thinking you can get. The ability of thinking is one of the most important abilities and it can benefit us a lot in dealing with every thing. We will be wiser and smarter after this learning process. So can we understand things better, not just step in front of the surfice, but know the nature of it.

Furthermore, difficult classes can improve the ability of learning and overcoming difficulties. Difficult classes are challenges to the students. They may be helpless and desperate when they first start to learn the courses. But in order to pass the exams, they will try their best to think of way to learn it well. They adjust their learning method and get progress day after day. At last, they master the knowledge and get through the difficuties. This not only help them form a better learning habit, but also strongthen the willpower of them.

Although marks are important, they are just simbols. Most of times, the knowledge cannot be used in later works, but the trainings and experience benifit a person a lot. What a student get from difficulties are more important than a high mark. Improved abilities from difficult classes can lead to better success.

When judging a team work, it is hard to determine the score to every member since the work relies on the cooperation of them. Every member plays an important role in finishing the work, and it is the a crystallization of everyone's wisdom and effort. So should every member of the team given the same grade when they finish a project? In my opnion, it is unfair to judge in this way because everyone did the different part of work and time and effort they spend is not the same. Also they have different abilities.

First of all, people in the team play different roles and do different things although everyone is important. Some of them play the leader who orgnize the work, arrange the members, and appoint jobs. Some of them do the work of searching materials, or look for useful information. Some do the articale writting. Some of them will be very busy with the his own work because it is too much and difficult to finish, while some may be very relaxed. And it is usually done that people with stronger ablities do more than those with weaker abilities in order to ensure the quality of the work. So the score should depend on the work and effort of a member.

Secondly, if every member will have the same score, those who always do better than others will be disappointed and thus lose passion and enthusiastics since he cannot get a higher score however hard he works. In today's socialty, competition exists everywhere.Although a team work needs cooperation, competition between cannot be avoided. It is competition that lead us be more diligent and hardworking. Same grade means less competition which will decrease the passion of every member.

Besides, the low grade of a work cannot present that everyone is not excellent. Maybe only a few of them did not do it well, which cause everyone suffer a low grade. And if the most excellent one join another group, his result may be opposite. So that it is unfair to judge a student just on the work of the team, but on the student objectively. The better the student did, the higher grade he deserves. So the score should involve both the performance of the student and the quality of the team work which can reveal the ablity of cooperation.

Consider the factors above, a fair judgement should be used to determine the grade of the member of the work because everyone is different. Although cooperation is important, giving the same grade is not fair and will cause bad results. And the judgement should combine the work and the students.

4.11 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Renewable sources of energy (sun, wind, water) will soon replace fossil fuels (gas, oil and coal).

Environment and resources are now concerned much about by people since some unrenewable resources are facing the problem of being exhausted. In order to keep our life and producing going on, scientists has created many ways of using other resources such as sun, wind and water that can be renewed. It can solve the problem in a sense, but I do not think renewable sources of energy can soon replace fossil fuels.

First, I have to mention that it is a good choice to transfer energy from sun, wind and water into electronic, pulse or something else. During the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing, many of the stadiums use solar energy as the main energy to light. It has saved much sources from fossil fuels that are used to make electronic. Wind generator have been established in the wast of China where there are affluent source of wind. And Three Gorges Dam has been built as the geretator station of water. For We can see that renewable source has played an important role in our everyday life.

However, I do not think they will soon replace fossil fuels since it is expensive to develop new equipments for transforming them into usable energy. Our technology has not reach the level to realize this idea and researches are still being done. Science research will take a lot of money while some country cannot afford it. As a result, the inventure that use new energy will also cost a lot. Consider this, most of people will not choose this way to save energy. They would rather purchase traditional ones. If planes are transfored to use them, there will be countless money, and the money for ticket will rise dramatically. People will stop taking planes any more. So it will be a long time for the universla people to accept this expenditure.

Furthermore, the conversion of renewable sources is very low, which cannot support the ergent demanding of industry and people's everyday life. May be the quantity of electrocity we use will be limited and our car will run a very short distance. Maybe some small vehicles can use these sources, but it is impossible for large ones such as planes or trains. Thus the society will be affected if these sources are used. Also, the wind, sun and water energy are from the nature, so that they may not be stable. If it is cloudy and there is no sunshine someday, the energy will stop supporting people. Maybe we can use this energy in some areas, but not the whole world.

As a conclusion, I want to say that it is a good idea and method to solve the problem of earth resources, and is more environmentally friendly. But combining factors from society, economy and people's life, it will be a long time to replace the traditional fuels by renewable ones, and maybe it cannot realized and we will die out.

4.12 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The best way to travel is in a group led by a tour guide.

What is the best way for traveling? Some people like to join a group with a tour guide, which can save a lot of time making schedules and preparing for the trip. While other people like to travel by themselves, which makes traveling more exciting and flexible. From my perspective, I prefer to go myself rather than follow a tour guide considering the cost and the real meaning of traveling.

First of all, joining a travel group cost more than free traveling. Since the tour guide is from a travel agency, you will pay an extra expenditure to the agency except the tickets, hotels, transportation and meals. In fact, you can save a lot of money if you book the plane tickets earlier, choose a cheaper hotel, or have a better arrangement. Also, the tour guide will cheat you about the price. So it is not wise to bring money to others.

Furthermore, tour guide always lead you to some places that are known all over the world, the famous mountains, rivers, buidings, bridges, statues or musieums. These places in my opinion is of no interest although is the symble of the city or the country. It is because you can see it every where in the newspapers, magzines, movies or on TV. You just spend hundreds of dollars and weeks of days to see those places while cannot see it clealy and wholely because there are always too many people and you cannot see it in a proper perspect. While traveling alone is more interesting, because you can descover many new places that are also beautiful, which can give you a sence of achievement. Also you can get closer to the local people and know more about their culture. As I see, traveling is not just for seeing, but for experiece.

Last but not least, when you are with a group of people, you should always keep pace with them. In this situation, you will lose your freedom. Maybe you want to leave a place while others do not, so you have to wait for them. Or sometimes you want to visit some place but it is not arranged. I think the schedule should be made based on every individual traveler, but not made the same. If you are arranged all the time, you will definately be boring and lose passion about traveling.

As a conclusion, I want to say that the real meaning of traveling is not just seeing the place but experiencing the whole process, including making the schedule, knowing about the culture there and feeling the exciting of some unpredictable things.

语法及用词的问题我就不谈了，因为我也不是很在行。。。主要看下结构跟逻辑
