1. Don't Defeat Yourself
Think a minute! Recent studies show that only 1 out of 3 people have strong and healthy self-confidence. That means 2 out of every 3 people simply don't know the ability they already have to be successful when it's right there in their hands! But if you want others to believe in you, you have to believe in yourself first. Remember: "No one can make you feel inferior unless you let them." A successful businessman says: "You can't push anyone up a ladder unless he knows he can climb himself."
Many of us have an image problem, the image we have of ourselves. As one guy put it: "You can't win a horse race if you think you look funny on a horse." To succeed, the first person you have to beat is yourself! So stop believing your own lies about yourself. Just Change your mind and you'll change your life.
One of the most lethal weapons that can kill your success in life are the 2 little words: "I can't." Do you know that people used to think that if human beings traveled faster than 30 miles an hour, it would stop our circulation of blood and kill us? Thank goodness a few people didn't believe that silly thinking, or we wouldn't be riding in cars, busses, and flying on airplanes today. You'll never know until you try.
Roger Bannister was the first human being to run a mile in less than 4 minutes. But before he did it, most people in the world didn't think it was even possible. Yet only weeks after Bannister did it, suddenly runners all over the world began running a mile in less than 4 minutes! If we believe something can be done, we'll usually do it. Just think a minute…

2. No Parking
Think a minute! On this journey called life, do you sometimes feel like just pulling over and parking? You feel like you've done enough, worked enough, and learned enough. Now it's time just to sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. But the problem is once we pull over and park, the ride of our life stops, because we stop ourselves from reaching our potential and living every day to the fullest. We stop trying, learning and improving to make ourselves and our life the best it can be.
And there are three common reasons or parking places that many people are tampered to stop at and park, instead of going on to reach their full potential. One parking place we stop at is what we think about our handicaps and weaknesses. Because we compare ourselves to others who might have certain talents and abilities we don't have. Instead of being thankful for our own special strengths and abilities. So we each must learn first to accept ourselves with our own looks, personality and abilities. Because no one is fully handicapped! We all have a special place to fill in this world that no one else can fill except us. So friend, don't park by what you think are your handicaps or lack of talents and abilities. Start using and making the most of the special person you are.
A second parking place that many of us attempted to stop at is our failures You know every one of us has failed. So if you've failed, join the club! But learn from it and try again. Because it's not how you start, but how you finish that makes you a success. And it's never too late to get back on the road going toward your dreams and goals in life. Life goes on, so you might as well go with it and get closer to the kind of character and life you want.
Finally the third place we might want to park is by our successes. Just because we've achieved a little success in life, we want to stop trying and growing, because we're satisfied with only a little success. But we've only just begun to reach the kind of living we are really capable of. Just think a minute...

3. The Sweat of Success
Think a minute! The Former Prime Minister of England, Winston Churchill, became so famous for his great speeches that he's been called the greatest speaker of the century. He was also famous for his quick thinking remarks and comments. Yet he was not a natural or gifted speaker. In fact, earlier in Churchill's life he had a speech problem so that many people laughed and made fun of the way he talked.
But do you know how Churchill changed to become the greatest speaker of this century? He wrote his speeches word-for-word on paper, and practised them. He even practised the pauses and pretended to struggle to find the right word or phrase, even though he knew exactly what he was going to say! And he practised each speech many hours in front of a mirror. He worked on saying each word just the right way and even the expressions he used on his face when he spoke. You see, Winston Churchill was not a natural good speaker, but he disciplined himself and worked hard to become a great one!
And friend, you and I can never succeed in life without discipline and hard work. Because it takes work and sweat to succeed in your job and career, in school, in sport, in your marriage and family. Because even if you're born in a rich family, or with a smart mind or a strong body, you still have to work hard to truly succeed and reach your potential. Just think a minute...

4. Work Works
Think a minute! Did you know that the average person puts only 25% of his energy and ability into his work? That means those who use 50% of their ability really stand out from the rest. And the very few who actually give their full 100% of strength and smarts to their work become the most successful. Many people want the greener grass, but they don't want to pay the higher water bill to get it!
"No person has ever slept his way to succeed. Because sleepers sleep through their best opportunities." You see, while we're sleeping, our talents and abilities sleep with us. So the only way to smell sweet success is to wake up, and work up the ladder to where you want to be. Then after you've reached the level of success you want, work is the only way you can stay there and keep enjoying it.
Remember, nothing just happens by itself, somebody has to do the work to make it happen. The great music composers like Beethoven and Mozart did not sit around and wait until they got inspired before they started to work. They got inspired because they were already working.
But it's not enough to work hard. An important question we need to ask ourselves is what we are working for? We can't just work hard, we also have to work smart. Don't get ripped off by working your whole life for something that doesn't give you real quality of life. We need to be smart and get the best deal we can for our life of work. Some people work hard all their lives and become rich, but inside they're still poor and unhappy. They're miserable and empty because they didn't work smart for the right things. Just think a minute...

5. Create Your Own Luck
Think a minute! Do you know some people who just have all the luck? They seem to get all the breaks. And you ask yourself: "Why don't I get lucky? Why don't I get a great education? A great job or business? A nice house? A wonderful wife or husband? " But the real reason most people are successful or lucky is that they've learned how to put themselves in a place, so they can be lucky. They've learned how to, in a way, create their own luck!
I'm not talking about dishonest or illegal ways. I'm talking about hard, honest work. But successful people don't just work hard, they also work smart. They keep improving and making the most of their assets and abilities. Yet they also learn to ask for help in things they themselves are not good at doing. As one successful man says: "You can't put in what God left out." So we not only must make the most of our own special strength, we must also learn our limits and weaknesses.
A man recently got his lucky big break – a promotion in a large company. Everybody said: "That guy's so lucky! " But that man created his own luck--by always arriving at the office early. He apologized and admitted when he was wrong. He even shared the credit and reward with others when he had done much of the work. He was never satisfied just to get by and do average work. He always made the extra effort to do his very best. He kept working hard when others slacked off.
We have to work hard and do what it takes to be in the way of luck and success when it comes. Otherwise, we'll miss it because we aren't ready. You never know when the right opportunity will come your way, and when the right, an important person is watching your excellent attitude and work. That's when you'll get your lucky break! Just think a minute...
