[Subject: PhD Studies at School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong ]

Established in 1998, the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is the first of its kind in Asia and the birthplace of a new generation of transmedia specialists, whose interdisciplinary research activities encompass and combine all aspects of art and new media creation, incorporating methodologies based in the sciences, the humanities, or both.

All of our School’s current full-time PhD students are either funded by the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) offered by the Hong Kong Government or by postgraduate studentships provided by CityU. Currently we have international PhD students from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Mexico, UK and USA. Our faculty members coming from diverse cultural backgrounds and academic disciplines can provide a wide variety of cross-disciplinary supervision.

While our School is now accepting PhD applications (with research proposals), we encourage those with outstanding academic records to apply through the HKPFS by 1 December 2016.

For awardees of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship, the package is as follows:
HKPFS’s monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (~US$ 2,560);
CityU’s Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies Entrance Scholarship (around HK$71,500, or ~US$9,170) which covers a students’ tuition fee and on-campus hostel accommodation expenses in their first year of study;
Conference and Research Related Travel Allowance of HKPFS at HK$10,000(~US$1,280) per year for up to 3 years;
Funding provision from CityU’s Research Activities Funds at a maximum cumulative amount of HK$30,000 (~US$3,850) during the entire candidature of study; and
CityU’s Conference Grant at a maximum amount of HK$10,000 (~US$1,280).

Candidates whose applications for the HKPFS are unsuccessful may be admitted with postgraduate studentships instead. The package for studentship recipients is as follows:
Monthly studentship of HK$15,900 (~US$2,040);
Funding provision from CityU’s Research Activities Funds at a maximum cumulative amount of HK$30,000 (~US$3,850) during the entire candidature of study; and
CityU’s Conference Grant at a maximum amount of HK$10,000 (~US$1,280).
