The following appeared in a letter to the editor of a newspaper serving the villages of Castorville and Polluxton.
'Both the villages of Castorville and Polluxton have experienced sharp declines in the numbers of residents who pay property taxes. To save money and improve service, the two villages recently merged their once separate garbage collection departments into a single department located in Castorville, and the new department has reported few complaints about its service. Last year the library in Polluxton had 20 percent fewer users than during the previous year. It follows that we should now further economize and improve service, as we did with garbage collection, by closing the library in Polluxton and using the library in Castorville to serve both villages.'

Before we accept the conclusion reached in the argument, the evidence given in the argument should be examined from several other angles.

To begin with, the arguer unfairly assumes that merging once separate garbage collection departments in to single department is a effective way to save money, and that residents living in the two villages are content about such change. For one thing, we are told nothing about what happened after the merging. There is a good chance that the government would have to pay much more for the change. For another, the arguer fails to inform us that how long has such change happen. If it has changed only for a very short time, it is very likely that few people recognize the difference. Perhaps more and more complaints would come up after Polluxton residents feel it is not a waste of time to reach another garbage collection.

Moreover, the arguer commits a fallacy of false analogy. Libraries and garbage collection actually perform the obviously different factions. Even the merging strategy work to garbage collection, it does not follow that it might also work
to libraries.

Last but not least, the arguer fails to take other factors into account. He or she have to provide evidence that libraries are too many in these two villages. It is possible that the books hided in the libraries are too few to fulfill the requirement of persons, and not that only one library is enough to serve the residents.

To sum up, this analysis is not well reasoned. To justify the argument, the arguer might have to ruling out any other possibilities which might weaken the conclusion.

欧洲生物统计比较

本人计划2025spring去欧洲读生物统计硕士，目前在准备这两个项目的申请：莱顿大学的Statistics & Data Science，瑞士的苏黎世大学Biostatistics。计划以后在欧洲的药企做统计师，如果硕士找不到工作，可以考虑继续读生物统计的博士。有移民打算。苏黎世的项目一年半，可以选一个30学分的辅修，学费很便宜，一年才几百法郎，但生活费比较贵，而且难留下来。莱顿的项目两年，学费比较贵，一年要21000欧左右，但比瑞士好润。
