51. "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

Education is always the problem under the limelight of discussion. What effective education is like? Does effective education requires meeting of interests of each student? In my opinion, this point of view is partly right. In higher education,         focus of individual interest brings better results of education, however, there are also some problems under absolute freedom of choice.

The validity of education lies in the maximum inspiration of the potential of every student. Such education is usually regarded as a “failure” that makes an art-talented student a mediocre lawyer, while the student who does well in writing was forced to be a doctor. If educated properly, they will be able to make better achievements rather than engaged in their seemly “decent” jobs. Consequently, the goal of education could be better achieved when every student is distinguished of his or her strong unit and pertinently instructed.

However, there are some living skills and knowledge essential to everybody. For example, an artist should learn to make budget of daily expense in order to live decently and comfortably. A mathematician should have at least the ability to appreciate literal masterpieces and enjoy popular art such as movies so as to have a healthy and joyful leisure life. An education will never be called “successful” which focuses too much on student’s strong unit while forgetting all the other aspects of life. The fruit of such education will probably be science gink or art maniac.

Considering the points of view above, we may come to the conclusion that in primary education, knowledge of main areas should be all taught in order to forge a comprehensive knowledge background, while in higher education such as universities, students could be allow the choice of their own majors and minors according to their interests and demands. This may be a good pattern of education which take into consideration both the individuality and commonness of students. However, there are also some problems of such education.

First, what if a student changes his or her interest after some years of studying in university? Thus, there will be the dilemma of giving up the effort of several years and starting a new subject or continuing the uninterested course. Second, does interest equals speciality of every student? Some students may be interested in fields they are not good at. Letting them choose the courses just according to their interests will also violate the purpose of inspiring potential.

Consequently, while the interest-focus education in university helps students to develop their own strong units, it does bring some problems open to discuss. Admittedly, moderate emphasis on the individual needs and interests helps in inspiring potential of students. However, without the help of teachers and parents, students will have problem in balancing their interest and their courses. Thus, in order to achieve the goal of effective education, there is a long way for us to go.

a key question arises that 之类的比较好
