Issue120 又一次严重超时!!!
"So much is new and complex today that looking back for understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in the present."

Should we looking back for understanding of the past? In my view, it is requisite for us to study from the past which provides us the basic knowledge and the valuable experience, and at the same time, we should never be stubborn towards the doctrines from the ancestor that are obsolete in solving today's problems.

To begin with, the past knowledge which is summarized by our ancestors is the foundation of our study. As Newton the famous physicist once said, if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants. During the hundreds of thousands of years' proof, the truth and knowledge that are discovered by the ancestors are all the piths which we could directly use them as principles and rules. In academic field, a scientist today is not necessary to deduce from the original axioms, but taking the past knowledge as tools. In art field, a students no matter studying the music or painting, has firstly to learn and appreciate the former masters' masterpieces which could inspire the student and help him produce more great works. Thus, looking back for understanding the knowledge and works left by the ancestors is indispensable for us today.

Furthermore, studying from the past experience could stop us from committing the same blunders. History is like the road map that recording our human being's behaviors including the successes and failures. Someone once said, history repeats itself. In most cases, we could compare the current situation with the past one. Thus, through looking at the history map of our human beings, we could clearly understand what state we are in and which is the most likely approach that could lead us into the right direction. Through the experience from the Second World War, Germany has learned that chauvinistic is dangerous to the country and the whole world, and the government has done great efforts in every respect to prevent the reviving of the chauvinism. Similarly, through nearly one hundred years' tribulation from the late 19th to the early 20th, Chinese people have learnt that only with the highly developed technology and the advanced industrial foundation, could teh country avoid from being invaded by others. In short, through studying the past, we will not be stumbled by the same stone.

However, though the advantage of looking back for understanding the past is, we could not always be stick to the doctrines and experience of the ancestors under contemporary environment if the doctrines and experience could not accord with the present problems. After all, the overall situation has changed a lot from the past, we have to analysis from case to case with innovation, otherwise, blindly following the doctrines would impede instead of promoting progress. During the Great Depression period in America, Roosevelt boldly implementing the new policy to draw back the American economy is just a typical example. Therefore, we need to take the temporal situation into account not blindly following the doctrines.

To sum up, looking back for an understanding is indispensable for anyone that past knowledge is the foundation of our studies and the experience could prevent us from committing the same errors. In addition, we also have to innovate rather than blindly following the past doctrines that are not suitable today.
