:handshake"An innovative treatment has come to our attention that promises to significantly reduce absenteeism in our schools and workplaces.A study reports that in nearby EastMeria, where fish consumption is very high, people visit the doctor only once or twice prevent colds.Since colds are the reason most frequently given for absences from school and word, we recommend the daily use of  Ichthaid, a nutritional supplement derived from fish oil, as a good way to prevent colds and lower absenteeism."

In the argument, the alleged innovative treatment for absence brought forward by the author that using Ichthaid(a nutritional supplement derived from fish oil) daily seems feasible and plausible at first glance, but close inspection would reveal it fraught with oversimplified and unwarranted  claims in several aspects.

In the first place, whether the times of visiting the doctors for the treatment of cold could be a reasonable measure of the times that people catch cold needs to be discussed. Since that actually, when people catch a cold, they usually go to drugstores to buy some Over-the-Counter(OTC) drugs, which are generally competent for the treatment to cure common cold, rather than visit the doctor immediately. Accordingly, unless it can be assured that people in East Meria(EM) visit the doctor as long as they catch a cold, the statistic of times might probably not become a reference.

Further more, granted that people in EM really seldom catch a cold, and while it is true that people there customarily eat a substantial amount of fish, it can not be concluded without a moment's thought that having amount of fish can prevent colds. In respect that in common sense, various factors can lead to colds, such as climate changes, infecting flu virus, being caught in rains, bad environmental conditions and so on. One could audaciously suppose that maybe in EA, the climate is pretty comfortable, and the environment there is fairly good and inhabitable, so people there seldom have colds. In contrast, Even if eating fish can prevent colds at a certain extent, if the climate of WA often changes, or people there have some uncivil habits like expectorating everywhere, throwing garbage away everywhere, having fish perhaps no use for preventing colds.

In addition, that colds are the reason most frequently given for absences from school and work does not mean that colds are the real reason for most of the absences. Because people catching a cold may get well in 1 or 2 days as a rule, as a pretext, catching a cold often becomes the best choice to get a leave of absence. Therefore, there is no sufficient evidence to prove that colds are the very reason causing the absences.

Moreover, assume that all the analysis of the author is reasonable, the conclusion drawn by him/her is questionable. Is that eating fish can prevent colds equal to that eating the nutritional supplement derived from fish oil can prevent colds? Probably not. Besides, it is hard to guarantee that there will not be other new reasons taking place after preventing colds.

To sum up, the argument is neither logically nor persuasive. To better bolster and strengthen the argument, the author would first make a comprehensive and thorough investigation of the reasons why the absenteeism is so high, take a calm analysis about what reported, and then consider the solution,  rather than send such a brash suggestion  to the public.
