The speaker asserts that the absence of choice is a circumstance that is very rare. I fundamentally agree this opinion. As far as I am concerned, although in some extreme cases people have no chance to choose what they want and desire for, true absence of choice is very rare in modern society.

Admittedly, in some extreme cases people have no chance to choice. For example, people cannot choose their parents, appearance, family members and so on. People cannot choose to forever live in the world without death even today when high-advanced modern medical technology can cure many diseases that were regarded as irremediable ones before. People can choose to fly as high as birds under the circumstances without the help of any facilities for the reason that mankind cannot escape the rules of gravity. So people seem powerless to make a choice in these extreme rare cases.

However, besides the foregoing rare circumstances, people have more and more chance to choose in the modern society. On the one hand, high-advanced society in all kinds of fields provides a myriad of opportunities and challenges for people, who can freely choose and determine what they seek for or aspire to. For example, many kinds of traffic tools, such as planes, train, boats and car etc, are available for people who travel from one place to another. People can choose one of them that they are most suitable or favorable for them. With the economic development, there are more and more vocations optional for people to choose and people can freely choose their vocations according to their interests, backgrounds or knowledge. People can taste worldwide food with different appetites even in a city nowadays. Moreover, people are endowed with more rights and privilege in modern democratic society and thus they have larger freedom to choose. Many people have rights to choose and dominate the president of their own nation. Some shortcomings or defects in laws or regulations can be rectified by some of people who have the strong desire to improve the current legal or administrative system. These examples and all other similar cases demonstrates that, no matter you acknowledged or not, people are surrounded by varieties of choices and true absence of choice is very rare.

On the other hand, people can change the current situation of the so-called no choices by their attitude and self-improvement. Under some circumstance that people face the dilemma of no choices, yet they can choose to change such awkward situation by courage or persistent efforts. For example, for a student with comparatively poor intelligence and academic performance, most of people, even his parents, think that he has no chance to choice the famous universities. Is that the case that they really have no way out? The answer is of course negative. He can achieve his objectives by choosing the diligent works, persistent efforts, optimistic attitudes towards his adversity. Even if he cannot enter the desiring university, he can have more choice chances because of his active attitude and self-improvement spirit. Therefore, from this point of views, people have choices as long as they can actively struggle for.

To sum up, although absence of choice do exist in some extreme and rare cases, people have more and more the choice chances in modern democratic and freedom because the development of society provide more opportunities and advantages for people to choose. At the same time, more chance of choice can be established and created by active attitude and self-improvement of people.
