TOPIC: ISSUE208 - "The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people."
WORDS: 457          TIME: 00:45:00          DATE: 2007-7-18 20:08:11

I agree with the claim that the way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. But when talking to a society's ideas and values,  we would have to explore it from different aspects.

On the one hand, we can feel and guess characteristics and interests of people  around us. Commen sense that a university girl who dressed like a professional employee indicates that she wants to work in the near future and that she strives for success in caree. Another example is that a mid-aged lady who dressed like a school girl definitely means that she is missing the school time. As a result, it is quite easy to recgonize people's feelings and attitutes from their expressions if they do not intent to pretend. And what is true is that professors can easily find their students' interests or that a teacher knows whether students like his or her way of teaching just by looking from their face or eyes.

On the other hand, one society is made-up by distinguished groups of people, and these groups of people may share similar ideas and values in each group, while opposite between different groups; thus by observing the appearance and behavior of all its people can not conclude ideas and values of this society. I hold the idea that how one society's people look, dress and behavie are the influence this society's ideas and values, and that it is too hard to examine this society's ideas and values by study the appearance and behavior of its people. In America, most people do what they like to do, that is, do things according to their interets, such as, choosing majors and study areas in collages or universities, which reflects that people have freedom in a democratic country, while in Asian countries, most people do things by listioning to the suggestion of their parents, which is also a reflection of a value of respecting elders. In contrast, it is impossible to infer that a socity has a idea of democracy or a value of respecing elders only by looking through their people, and finding that people have a lot of freedom to do what they like or that people like to ask their parents for advices, and why I say so is because from such phnomenos, we can also make some other conclusions, for example, people who liston to their parents may be a reflection of independence.

In sum, it is obvious that we would understand people's attitudes and interets from the way they look and dress, however, it is not right to explore a society's ideas and values by the same way. Ideas and values of a society is more complicated and colorful than those of a person.

On the one hand, we can feel and guess characteristics and interests of people  around us. Commen(common) sense that a university girl who dressed (dresses 注意时态)like a professional employee indicates that she wants to work in the near future and that she strives for success in caree. Another example is that a mid-aged(middle-aged)  lady who dressed (dressed吧?)like a school girl definitely means that she is missing the school time.

I hold the idea that how one society's people look, dress and behavie(behave)  are the influence this society's ideas and values, and that (去掉that)it is too hard to examine this society's ideas and values by study the appearance and behavior of its people. In America, most people do what they like to do, that is, do things according to their interets, such as, choosing majors and study areas in collages or universities, which reflects that people have freedom in a democratic country, while in Asian countries, most people do things by listioning (listening) to the suggestions of their parents, which is also a reflection of a value of respecting elders. In sum, it is obvious that we would understand people's attitudes and interets from the way they look and dress, however, it is not right to explore a society's ideas and values by the same way. Ideas and values of a society is more complicated and colorful than those of a person.

全文对however后面的论述比较弱
