In this argument the author suggests that people who snore should try to eat less and to exercise more. To support it, the author points out a study showing that people who snore probably gain weight than people who do not snore. He or she also reasons that people who snore are likely to suffer from sleep apnea leading to frequent wake during the night, which leave the person too tire to exercise during the day. However, this argument is flawed in several critical aspects.
To begin with, the author unfairly assumes that it is the snoring that results in people’s gaining weight. Nevertheless, the author overlooks other possibilities which also lead to the result. Perhaps the person was born to fat, inheriting the fat shape from his/her family. Or perhaps he/she once was seriously ill and had to take some medicine with side effect resulting in gaining weight. And this happened right before he/she started to snore. Without rolling up these possibilities, the author makes the suggestion on the basis of the assumption.
The author also assumes that people who snore do less exercise and eat more. It is entirely possible that people who are really keen of exercise insist on taking exercise even though they are tired. The author informs me that people who snore probably suffer from sleep apnea which causing frequent wake during the night. Common sense informs me that people who do not have a good sleep will probably have no good appetite. Without rolling out the possibility the author can not make the unfair assumptions.
Even though those people who snore exercise less and eat more, the author can not unfairly assumes that as long as people who snore eat less and exercise more will they lose weight easily. The author does not provide enough evidence to support it. Common sense tells me that it is not so easy to control your weight through such kind of methods. If so , why so many people suffering from obesity turns to medicine for help. Lacking information the author can not convince me that these methods do take effect.
In sum, the suggestion that people who snore should eat less and exercise more is unpersuasive To strengthen it , the author should provide enough information to support that snoring is the cause of gaining weight. The author should also provide more information that people who snore do exercise less and eat more and they are the effective way to control weight.
