TOPIC: ISSUE212 - "If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable."

It is undeniable that we should try our  best to achieve the goal if it is worthy. But does this means that we should take any means to attain it? However, in some circumstance, it is harmful to attain our goal at all costs.

To begin with, if a goal is meaningful and significant, then we should  make great efforts to achieve it, which is especially true when considering science research. In the field of science that fulfill trouble and difficult, the goal of the research is always to solve a problem in the nature or the society, which eventually will bring benefits to the thoroughly understanding of nature and better development of the society. For example, the research on cancer lasts about decades, which, though partly have some achievements, is still far away from the goal of overcoming cancer finally. The government and scientists already put much money and time on it, and actually they will make much more greater efforts to find a way of curing cancer. In this case, for the goal that will contribute to a better life and  prosperous society, we should try to achieve the goal to the best of our ability.

However, in the politics, sometimes it is harmful to attain a goal no matter it costs. How to define the goal is worthy or not? Somehow it is hard to judge if it is worthy and in some circumstance it is used as politic tool for dictator to control the mind of people in the society or country. For instance, Adolf Hilter, who was the sower of World War Two, resulting in destructive damage to many countries in the world,  encouraged his soldiers to achieve his own goal that is to rule the world. What most the soldiers were taught is to  conquer other nation at any means even sacrifice themselves by suicide mission. In this point, it is very dangerous for some dictator to attain his goal at any means if he blindly believe it is worthy.

Additionally, in the business, even if the goal is worthy, we still should follow some rules.  The merchant always want to make profits as much as possible, sometimes ignoring some potential factors which may cause harmful result. The industry factory may result in serious pollution, since merchants would try to get profits in the cost of polluting the environment. They may try to defeat their competitors by illegal method in order to get more markets. In such circumstance, even if the goal is worthy for some people's own interest, it should not be achieved at the cost of polluting the environment, harming the society and hurting other people.

In conclusion, I concede that we should try our best to attain a goal if it worthy especially in the scientific research. But it does not follow that we could take any means to achieve even if this is harmful to the environment, nation or society. In other words, we still should follow some rules.
