Is it better to spend money on something that lasts long time, such as an expensive piece of jewelry, or spend on something that provides short-term pleasure, such as a vacation?(05/18/07)

Have you ever face the situation that spending a certain amount of money on two choices that one is to achieve temporary enjoyment and another is to purchase something practical to gain long-term pleasure? A number of people would say that they prefer to put money to first one such as a vacation. In my opinion, however, it is wiser to expense moeny to pursue long happiness as following reasons.
In the first place, to buy some practical things could bring relative long benefit to you. Take car for example. Nowadays more and more college students brought a car when they enter into the campus, so that they could drive to classroom in the morning and return to dormitory in the afternoon, which save tremendous precious time and vigor for their study. Additionally, on the holiday the automobile made it possible to go to some distant places for shopping, visiting friend, or just watching different scenery for these students. Life became more colorful with the car, and that is one of countless virtues of practical things.

To back up my standpoint, the long existed objects could be added extra value with the time elapsing. In order to get a better live standard for you and your family, you should learn to how to invest with limited money and it is the practical things that always return you more than your expectation. For instance, the gold price in my country now is 2 times more than it was in 5 years ago, which contributed to a large number of millionaires. And now more and more people still store gold-making goods since they trust the bright prospect of gold in the future. So, if you want to become a wise investor, the long-term things would undoubtedly to your choice.

Last but not least, buy something last long is an effective to save lots of money to spend on other place you interested in. As a student, the limitation of money determined that I have to spend money on what is permanently favorable. For example, I am a big movies fan but the expensive tickets obstacle me from watching every lasted film in theatre. However I brought a DVD player which seems more expensive than tickets but in fact it could save a huge number of more money in the long run, and the pleasure of watching films came back to my life with this practical thing. In a brief, saving money is also one of the advantages of the long lasting objects.

To sum up, money should be spend on long-term goods which have more value than short-term one because they can benefit you for a long time, earn extra value, and save more money which could be spend on other places.
