The speaker asserts that technologies determine rather than just influence social customs and ethics. I find the assertion over exaggerated the power of technology, in(注意标点和大小写) my observation, technologies can sometimes influence social customs drastically, however it can never determine social customs. Moreover, I concede that sparkles may come out sometimes when technologies confronted with ethics(承认当科技面对道德时将会产生火花?不太懂,呵呵,这样说貌似和后面说“这一论断无根据没”有让步或转折关系), yet the assertion is ungrounded.
In the first place, although technologies can influence the transformation of social customs to some extent, it is, however(althrough和however能连用么), ungrounded to claim that technologies determine social customs. Admittedly, the advancement of technologies tend to influence people's life style. Rapid development of information technology has greatly changed the means of communication among people. Technological innovations and inventions have greatly improved working efficiency and productivity. Thus technologies can influence the way of thinking and living, and the social customs as well.(感觉提供的论据稍显单薄了,个人观点:再扩展下会更好吧,呵呵,逻辑上也有点瑕疵哦,先做了让步,不要急于转折,先说明让步的理由,提供支持让步观点的论据。陈述完毕之后再说尽管它在一些方面有改变和影响的作用,然而怎么怎么样,然后在逐条罗列反面观点,不知道会不会合理些啊)
Social customs are handed down from generation to generation determined mostly by the nation or the race. Therefore, technology can't determine social customs but only make changes on them. It is some people's custom to grab a piece of newspaper at the breakfast tea table,( 注意一局结束另一句一开始了,标点和大写问题,如果想把两句连在一起需要加连词)today, technologies only changed the fashion from paper to electronics. Moreover, the author overlooked certain social customs that have nothing to do with technological advancement. For instance, British people place considerable value on punctuality, which is their social custom to make great efforts to arrive on time; people shake hands when they first meet each other. Other examples of social customs involve how people dress at different times, how people celebrate their holidays and cultural events and so forth.
In the second place, when it comes to ethics, the author's assertion is indefensible. As the discipline dealing with what is good and bad with moral duty and obligation, ethics serves as a guiding philosophy, a consciousness of human kind evolves along the human history. It is not determined by technologies, but by the nature of human being. Contrary to the author's opinion, it is technology that gets scrutinized by ethics about its moral outcome. Consider the advancement of technologies in the past century. At the near end of the second world war, theories of nuclear physics was so well developed that people can begin to cultivate nuclear power. At the very first moment ethics has confronted us with questions like whether we are prepared for such powerful technology, whether it can lead human kind to self-destruction. However, fears came true when the allies ended the war with two nuclear bombs, and when U.S. and the former Soviet Union conducted nuclear arms race in the cold war. Today, it is ethics that have made us aware of the potential harm of this fatal technology. Another apt example is Genetic technology, when people learned to manipulate their own DNA series, ethics keep asking questions concerning the legitimacy and potential harm of people conducting such technology. Today most developments of technologies are supervised due to ethical considerations.(感觉后面的反面观点挺不错的)
In conclusion, technologies serves to influence our customs, in order to make our life more convenient. And ethics keep addressing questions concerning the moral outcomes of technologies, informing our consciousness about right and wrong.(以上只是个人观点,有失偏颇请见谅。 第一次改别人的文章,望回拍哦,加油加油吖嘻嘻) |
