Suspect description released in 'suspicious death' near York U
TORONTO, On. - Toronto Police are updating the death of a 23-year-old woman
from China whose body was found in a basement apartment near York University,
Friday.
Officers ruled the woman's death 'suspicious' and conducted door-to-door
interviews, last week.
In a news conference Sunday, police said the victim opened her door around
1 a.m. while in the middle of an online conversation with someone overseas.
Homicide detectives said there was a physical struggle between the man and
the victim, while someone police are calling "an online witness" looked on.
The online witness has been interviewed by police and is not being considered
a suspect, but only as a person of interest.
Police said the laptop the woman was using has disappeared.
An autopsy indicated there were no signs of a sexual assault. Police will
not confirm this death as a homicide.
The suspect is described as a white male, 20 to 30 years old, 6 feet tall,
175 to 200 pounds with a muscular build. He has brown hair, and was wearing
a blue V-neck shirt.
There have been reports the victim was a 23-year-old Master of Business
Administration student; however, police are not confirming that information.
The home on Adwinkle Heights has a number of occupants and is located in a
new neighbourhood, south of the university.
