Direction: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled My Views on University Ranking. You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below.
1. 目前高校排名相当盛行;
2. 对于这种做法人们看法不一;

My Views on University Ranking

At present, University Ranking is prevailing among universities and colleges.I remembered that during the time when I prepared for my College Entrance Examination in the third year of my high school, I always read a book, the content of which is about university ranking, disseminated from my high school which strongly recommend this book for the reason that it could help students justify which university is best suited to the capacity of examinees reflected from their score of College Entrance Examination.Though now I am a junior, three years after my graduation from high school, the time that underscore the importance of ranking book, I believe nowadays for those who in the third year of high school, the possibility for them of the reduction of the significance and wide range of dissemination of this book is unimaginative, since more and more students are striving for a better university and ranking books could be regarded as a wonderful standard for them to make choice.

It seems verbose in my first paragraph to illustrate only one sentence of outlines given from the test “at present, university Ranking is prevailing”. But I just want to let you know it is my personal experience of ranking which could denote one essential usage of it. However, there are also plenty of other influences of Ranking on our society. In this complexion of society, people from each specialized field have diversified opinions. Some argue that Ranking will exacerbates the competition among universities and it will lead to some misbehaviors or even crimes of the professors or administrators. For instance, in order to promote the repute of his school, some professors plagiarized dissertations or pilfer the outcomes and patents from other schools. Others, especially socialists, in contrast, contend that competition makes a race more active and aggressive, and similarly, it encourage universities to be more diligent to compete with each other. They assert that this ranking mechanization will help construct a group of universities like a colony of germs in which competition help them make sure the execution of optimum selection.

In my opinion, I believe that everything has two extremenesses: overly deifying it or distaining and spurning it absolutely. However, just like only two same-weighty boys on a teeterboard could maintain its balance and satisfy the boys’ lark of playing, many matters have their own balance which is vital to ensure the sustenance development of them. Therefore, for Ranking, my opinion is that like a two-edged sword, we need to utilize its benefits such as the advantage of competition mentioned above and make sure that the competition will not change into a deleterious enzyme enticing forgery.

The red-highlighted sentences in the passage are the counterparts of Chinese sentences listed in the outline.

In recent years, all kinds of University Ranking Lists can be found on some educational websites, or newspapers. The ranking standards also vary. These lists have great influence on students. They are even becoming the only scale to evaluate the colleges and universities.
People hold different views toward this phenomenon. Some believe that these lists help the students a lot, especially for those who will choose their university. While some other protest vigorously. In their points, the list is really ridiculous and harmful. In my view, the university ranking may have its own reference values, but its disadvantages overweigh its values.
For those university-students-to-be, they are supposed to choose the school according to his or her own situation, but not the so-called Ranking List. What’s more, how about the university students? How do they feel about themselves when they see the ranking? The list may become some intangible shackles for them if their own school ranks poorly.
In a nutshell, there is no easy method to rank these universities, but the Ranking, only helps students ignore the essentials, namely, their ninety-nine percent perspiration.
