57"The depth of knowledge to be gained from books is much richer and broaderthan what can be learned from direct experience." 书中学到的知识远比实际经验中学到的知识要深广
(497)
It has aroused a widespreadabout comparing with direct experience, whether the depth of knowledge we gainfrom books is wealthier?
While there iscommon perception that people could get more knowledge from books than fromdirect experience. However from my perspective, I tend to consider that directexperience is obviously more consequential than books. But books, the foundation of knowledge, play an important role and cannot beignored.
I concede that the speaker is on the correctnotional side of this issue. After all, students, study in school, gainknowledge from textbooks much more than in laboratory or from some experience. Onthe one hand, study from books is a traditional and formal method. It isappreciate for us to use it and give wide publicity. Gained knowledge frombooks actually would help us to get higher grade in the official examinations, such as SAT and GRE. On the other hand, people can obtain a lot of intellectualpoint of view and advance images from people who have great successful in somefields. Because of that reading books may lead a faster way to success. Also ,with some material reading and rote learning is the only way to learn it insome timely manner, and experiences cannot help us anything. For example, whenlearning English alphabet, a foreign language for me, there is no shortcut anduseful experience unless rote learning and reading over and over again.
While, another point to the conceded it thatdirects experience is absolutely the most important thing for us. In onerespect, about study our motivation are living better, earning a lot of moneyand developing technology. Nevertheless experience is considerable significantfor people to get success. As weall know, for a number of technical workers, experiences just like a treasureand they can learn broader and deeper than they gained from books. A Chinese proverb said that Traveling thousands of miles is better than reading thousandsof books. Simultaneously, combining theories and practices can mobilize the enthusiasmof students. Practice is really useful to reinforce learning. No doubt thatpractice provides you useful experiences.
Based on these two perspectives,we have to admit that people should get these two methods together. Fordifferent people there is different way to help them gain knowledge deeper andmore widely. That is to say, today in such a changing society it would bepossible to have validly changes of education. In some subjects experiences canbroad our eyesight, and reading books based our fundaments of science. Forexample, when we learning chemistry , we always study the basic theories atfirst and then do some research in laboratory.
In summary, no matter the depth ofknowledge to be gained from books or from direct experience are all helpful forpeople. Book is the fundament of knowledge and experience is the basic way tosuccess. We would better combine direct experienceand books together, this quality is also scientist all have. |
