Nations should pass law to preserve ant remaining wilderness areas in their national state, even if there areas should be developed for economic gains.
From the forest areas in Japan to the Great Canyon in the United State, natural resource has always been a great value for any nations in the world, . Economic gains, on the other hands, are essential for a nation's development as well. Without a secured financial backup, the United State would have never been able to sustain and develop a good healthcare system, nor to send humans into the space. I would like to suggest, in the following paragraphs, both wilderness preservation and economic development are important for a nation. Moreover, the two concepts are not necessarily exclusive.
First, I would like to mention the importance of the wilderness for the development of human beings and human cultures, for the wilderness areas provide tremendous natural resources. .
For example, the rich natural environment in the African continent supported the development of the very first human being. The nature offered berries along with smaller animals that became the direct food sources for species such African monkeys and apes, which eventually evolved into modern humans. Likewise,In China, the civilization started in the wilderness. Without the rich soil along the Yellow River, which provided the basis for an agricultural society, survival of the early Chinese communities would been difficult, and chances for the development of a history as long as 3000 years old seem dim, at the best.
Economic gains, on the other hand, are also crucial for a nation's development, for it provides the financial foundations for the people's well beings . The United States' healthcare system which covers health bills for almost 60% of its population, for instance, relied heavily on the nation's economic development. Most countries in Africa and Asia, in contrast, are unable to afford such an all-encompassing medical care system because of their financial deficiency.
Therefore, I would like to suggest preservation of the wilderness and economic gains are equally necessarily for a healthy development of a nation. Moreover, the two concepts are not necessarily mutually exclusive. An ideal way is to develop economy without harming the environment. The Yellow Stone national park in the United States is an excellent example. While the tourists are allowed to enter the wilderness, namely, the Yellow Stone Park, strict rules are employed for its preservation. For example, tourists are permitted to fish in the rivers in the Yellow Stone Park . However, they are asked to set the fish free afterwards. The tourism industry brought significant economic gains for the country, and the environment, is well-protected. |
