It is true that in some field in our society, there are many manifold benefits in the regular renewal of leadership such as in politics. However, the speaker unnecessarily extends this broad assertion to embrace such fields as business in which such a renewal would be detrimental to the development of the whole group. As I see it, the set of presidency time should depend on the circumstance.

Regular renewal of leadership could effectively prevent corruption. Long-term of leadership without competition and thus the fear of losing power would challenge one’s rationale and lead to the abuse of power, resulting in corruption. History has been replete with examples of such cases. Louis XVI, the last king before the French Revolution, was the only king that was killed by his people because of his corruption and malpractice. Born in a time of feudal society where the power of king is regarded to be the symbol of the god, he has absolute power over his country which he had taken for granted and never took his responsibility. If, however, the leadership was renewed regularly just like in the modern democratic government, it is at least likely that the leader would be driven by the fear of losing his power and thus regulate his own behavior, control his desire and take his responsibility, which is absolutely good news for the development of the whole society.

Apart from that, regular renewal of leadership can often bring in competition and vitalize the whole group. In a democratic system, a leader is often elected and replaces the former one because of his superior talent over other competitors, thus gaining more trust from others. Such a leader is more likely to be respected by his/her members and hold together the whole group, which is crucial for the success of a group. If, however, the leader of a group always remains the same even if the members are quite dissatisfied with the leader, how could they work for such a leader readily? And query whether any ambitious worker would be willing to work in such a group where they could hardly have any chance of promotion.

However, renewing the leadership too regularly would also lead to low efficiency and the waste of resources. It is quite common that when a new leader takes place, a long-term policy carried out by the former one has to be suspended because of the suspension of power and change of leadership. As a result, the resources allocated to such policies are wasted and the sometimes the overall interest of a group would be affected. Moreover, in some areas such as science and business administration, the experience of a leader would be great help to the management. That is to say, the more experienced a leader is, the more efficient his work would be. Thus, a too regular renewal of leadership would lead to low efficiency.

In sum, what really matters is the set of time of leadership, after all, a leader can never be a leader forever. While such set should depend on different circumstance and five-year presidency can never fit all circumstance.

这次写的时候完全没有感觉···
