133.Claim: Knowing about the past cannot help people to make important decisions today. Reason: The world today is significantly more complex than it was even in the relatively recent past.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.

The speed of the development of our world is amazing in any aspects. Almost everything shows its new face every single day. In this case, there seems to be no necessary to care too much what happened in the past just like what the statement mentions. However I don't agree with opinion. Even if the world changes every day, we still can gain information and experience from the past.

There is no denying the fact that the society today is more complicated than any era in the history. The high-tech improving all the time, the international conflicts take place every day, even the burning problems of human's morality are different from the troubles of the history. Moreover the leaders of the historical countries had no difficulty with the nuclear weapons. With the development of the society we invent a host of news things which never came out in the past. In this case we indeed can learn nothing from the history about these things.

Notwithstanding is the problem the same all the time? The answer is "NO". Even if some new problems we are facing with today are different, there are still other things we can learn from the history. In my opinion that is the reason why no countries claim that the study of history is useless. So we learn history at school for a long time. Knowing the history can help us with making decisions for the future. By studying the fallacies our ancestors committed under similar social settings and circumstances, we will be able to see into the future, foretelling whether or not a tactic will work on our current problems; we will also be warned and cautiously avoid the mistakes that our predecessors made. After all the process of human development is continuous rather than intermittent. Sometimes the history is a mirror of tomorrow. The experience we learn from our ancestors will tell us what will be the result if we make a certain decision. Especially in the army, all the countries in the world pay sufficient attention to the wars in the history. The first aim is to prevent the war from happening again. Certainly the other reason is that the army should study the strategy used in the past in case the war breaks out. How previous problems were tackled will inspire us in our current quest.

Moreover there is no doubt that the improvement of our society is also the progress amassing knowledge and experience. No high-tech and innovations happen in one today. They are all results of the accumulation of the common knowledge and the experience of the history. The iPad which is popular all around the world is also the product of huge amount of knowledge. Can the engineers and the programmers invent iPad without any knowledge from there memory? The designing of the clear-cut appearance, the convenient applications, and the high-performance all need people familiar with the professional knowledge. With the knowledge of the past we have no need to prove all those classic axioms or verify scientific knowledge in practice again.

To view the above, learning from the history is important to the advancement of our society. We need the accumulated knowledge and experience passing through thousands of years. That is a kind of fortune for us human living in this world.
