Government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state, even though these areas are often extremely remote and thus accessible to only a few people.
------正文------
Nowadays, it is widely controversial whether government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state. As far as I am concerned, I fundamentally agree that these wilderness areas, even though extremely remote and accessible to only a few people deserve the government attention and preservation. However, in some cases, the government should also utilize and improve these areas.
First of all, these wilderness areas such as rainforests and grasslands play an indispensable part in the ecology system. With the rapid progress of the modern technology, a lot of man-made damages such as deforestation, endless hunting, industry pollution and so forth bring natural disaster to these wilderness areas which keep the balance of the nature. If the government cannot pay attention to these environmental problems of these areas, human being will ultimately be punished by nature some time. Some people may debate that as a result of only a small part of people can access these wilderness areas, these areas will not be destroyed by human being. However, facts and experience prove that their opinion is wrong. Although some wilderness areas are remote, only a few hunters can make large amount of animals extinct. Similarly, because of the green house effect, glaciers in Antarctic where few people can reach are largely destroyed. Therefore, the government must preserve these wilderness areas without question.
However, we cannot not say that preservation means no development. In some cases, development and utilization of these areas not only contribute to the nation but also benefit the ecology environment. For example, the Yellow Stone National Park, which is developed by the government and open to the tourists, becomes a good place for citizens in holiday. At the same time many species can be saved in this park and people also learn the importance of protecting environment. On the other hand, these wilderness areas can be used as military actions. Consider Xichang Satellites Sending Center which is built in the wilderness areas of the northwest China. In a word, sometimes aptly utilizing some wilderness areas is more advantageous than keeping them in the natural state.
Finally, in some cases, preserving the wilderness areas such as deserts in their natural state is not wise and effective. The deserts in China have widely overspread these years and make a lot of damages to our society. Every spring the sand storm caused by deserts in Inner Mongolia strikes many north cities in China including Beijing. The blue sky in Beijing has disappeared and been replaced by yellow sand in the air. Thus the government should improve and ameliorate the deserts by planting trees and grass rather than preserve them in their natural state in order to solve this problem.
To sum up, the government has responsibility to preserve these wilderness areas. However, it is much wiser to take a case-by-case analysis before making decisions. Sometimes development and improvement may be the better choice for these wilderness areas than preserving their natural state.
