题目:ARGUMENT 145 - A new study collected data that shows that people who snore are more likely to gain weight than are people who do not snore. It is well known that many people who snore also stop breathing frequently during the night for a few seconds, a condition called sleep apnea. The interruption of breathing wakes the person-often so briefly that the waking goes unnoticed-and can leave the person too tired during the day to exercise. Anyone who snores, therefore, should try to eat less than the average person and to exercise more.

The author claims that anyone who snores should try to eat less than the average person and exercise more since these people are too tired to take exercises. To support his or her assertion, the author cites a new study which shows that people who snore are more likely to gain weight than people who do not snore. However, this argument has several flaws which render it wholly unpersuasive as it stands.

Firstly, the assertion lies on the weak assumption that the interruption of breathing can leave the person too tired to take exercise during the day. It is known for everyone that people who suffer from snore might have various jobs: among them, there are workers, students, teachers, and athletes. It is highly possible that, as an athlete is concerned, no matter how they feel tired or uncomfortable, exercises are necessary since they have to keep their stamina, power, or flexibility in a good condition. Thus, doing exercises or not only simply depends on the spirit. So, without ruling out this possibility, the author cannot convince me that people who often snore will be lack of exercises.

Besides, even though the people who often snore take exercise less than common people, it is also on a further unsound assumption that those people be bound to eat more than the normal people that the author recommends all of these people should eat less. It is entirely possible that these people keep a healthy diet since they know the significance of the suitable quantum of food. Furthermore, perhaps they even put energy, fat, protein, and sugar the food that they take every day contains into consideration and thus their diet is balanced and moderate. Therefore, the author fails to substantiate this assumption which tends to offer the solid basement for his or her assertion initially.

Last but not least, the author reverse cause and result by asserting that people who snore are more likely to gain weight. That is to say, perhaps it is exactly because these people are over weight that they suffer from snore. If so, the following inferences in terms of this utmost vital fallacy are completely untenable. So unless proving snore will result in putting on weight, the author's assertion is unreliable substantially.

In sum, the assertion, which seems logical and convincing at first, has several flaws within it. To better bolster it, the author should offer the evidence that the interruption of breathing indeed makes the person too tired to take exercise and these people eat more than the normal people. Furthermore, the author should be certain of the fact that it is snore that leads to gain weight rather.
