Should government pay more attentions on resolving the immediate problems of today rather than attempting to solve the anticipated problems in the future, as the speaker claims? I concede that to make our society stable and to improve people' living conditions, our government has the responsibility to pay its great efforts on solving the pressing social problems, nevertheless, it should also take the potential and unexpectable problems into account.

To begin with, I turn to my agreement with the speaker on the foundation that government, as the delegation of the nation and its people, should undertake its obligation to make the society more harmonious and prosperous. Thus, the pressing social problems which significantly affect the living conditions and the development of the society should be concerned by the government. For supporting example one needs to look no further than the existing unfathomed problems in our modern society-the high unemployed rate, adolescent crime, the nursing of aged people, the welfare and allowance by contemporary workers, environment problems etc. All these emergent problems require the immediate resolutions of the government, otherwise, without the government's investment of relevant institutions which were aimed to solve these problems, I am hard-pressed to imagine how the current society will look like-let alone about its thriving and prosperity.

Admittedly, although the government should focus on solving the pressing social issues, it should not overlook the significant and anticipated problems which it will encounter in the future. In fact, these problems are directly relevant to the survival and further development of our descendants, for that reason, the government should pay equal efforts on the researches which could resolve the anticipated problems and benefit our offspring a lot. For example, some troubling deceases including the AIDS, Bird Flu and so forth cannot be curing by our current knowledge and skills of the modern therapeutics and therefore some detractors may argue that there is no need for government to invest in these unexpectable researches with the purpose of treating those deceases. Apparently, they are completely irrational in that these researches would contribute to the society and all human beings in the future if they help the patients who suffer from the decease. Moreover, the pollution of our environment become more serious, for instance, the destruction of the ozone layer. Supposed no government care about such problems, there is no denying that our descendants will live under a sky which was totally without the protection of ozone and suffers the highest risk of cancer which was caused by large quantity of ultraviolet radiation

Therefore, the government should concern not only the current pressing social problems but also invest the researches which benefit our descendants in the long run. And here comes my point of view, as to the different situations of distinct countries, for instance, the strength of the economy, the level of education, geography and environment, governments of distinct nations should carry out their current and future strategy depending on their specific circumstance.

To sum up, as discussed above, I concede that both the immediate and anticipated problems play important roles in the decision and investment of local governments, every government of different nations should make a concrete and comprehensive analysis about their particular circumstance before implementing their strategies for resolving both present and future problems.
