TOPIC: ARGUMENT67 - The following appeared in a letter to the editor of a newspaper serving the villages of Castorville and Polluxton.
"Both the villages of Castorville and Polluxton have experienced sharp declines in the numbers of residents who pay property taxes. To save money and improve service, the two villages recently merged their once separate garbage collection departments into a single department located in Castorville, and the new department has reported few complaints about its service. Last year the library in Polluxton had 20 percent fewer users than during the previous year. It follows that we should now further economize and improve service, as we did with garbage collection, by closing the library in Polluxton and using the library in Castorville to serve both villages."

In this letter,the arguer recommends that the villagers of Castorville and Polluxton should now further economize and improve service by closing the library in Polluxton and using the library in Castorville to serve both villages.To substantiate the conclustion,the arguer cites the example that the two villages has merged their once separate garbage collection departments into a single department located in Castorvill and thus the new department got few complaints about its service.In addition,he cites the fact that last year the libruary in polluxton had 20 percent fewer users than during the previous year.While this argument sounds reasonable at first glance.But through a scrutiny some critical fallacies just successively come out.

First of all,the arguer commits a fallacy of false analogy between the garbage collection department and the library since There are different aspects between them.After the merging of the two separate garbage collection departments into one in Castorville,the garbage in the village Polluxton still can be transported to the village of Castorville without much trouble.But the situation are different when it comes to the library.Library is a public property for the villagers to assimilate knowledge and what't more important,for them to relax after a taxing day of office or school.But if the library in Polluxone are closed,It would be very unconvineant or troublesome for the villigers of Polluxone to read books in the village of Castorville.And it would make the situation even worse if the two villages are far away from each other.

In addition,the arguer fails to rull out the possibility that though the numbers of library users in Polluxton are 20 percent fewer than the previous year,there was also a chance that the library in Castorville lost more percentage of users.The letter didn't mention anything about that of Castorville.So,if the two libraries must be merged into one library,parhaps it should be located in Polluxton,not Castorville.
Finally,the argument failed to consider one vital direction to solve all the problem.That is all of those issues are caused by the Sharp declines in the numbers of residents who pay property taxes in the two villages.The administrators in the two villages should find out why the numbers would fail and then found an effective way to solve it.

So to sum up,since every issues have its special situation,it's advisable for the villagers to use different methods when they were tackling different issues.And its brilliant for them to tackle the radical issues which resulted all the other problems.
