The manager of Valu-Mart stores makes the conclusion that the office-supply departmens will see the most profit in all stores because of some changes. To support his opinion, he notes a recent survey which shows a work-at-home trend. However, I found his conclusion is unresonable and problematic in many ways.   

To begin with, the outcome of the survey relies on which the manager gets his conclusion is incredible. Foremost, the manager presents no information about the respondents of this survey, such as the variety of the respondents, what kind of work they do, and the necessity of using home office machines at home. Without this basic information, this survey is not convincing  enough to show more people are going to buy home office machines. It is possible most respondents are film-making producers who have a lot of work to do at home than before because of the popularity of the film industry, but obviously they do not need printers or copy machines. Therefore, this survey fails to persuade me the work-at-home trend.

Secondly, even though there does appear a trend to work at home, it does not guarantee the sales of the Valu-Mart stores. As a matter of fact, the sales in office-supply department are not impressive in the past, which might be the out come of many factors, such as the deficiency of their products or the high price. I believe these factors will still affect the sales if they are improved no matter whether there is a trend of working at home or not.   

Last but not least, even assuming the sales of the office machines will increase, the manager's suggestion to increase stock of office supplies  is quite unreasonable and has no grounds. There is no proof in the memo that shows the increasing needs for office suppies. Perhaps when the needs of home office machines rises, the needs for office machines are accordingly decrease. If so , the manager's suggestion will lead to the decrease of the sales profit.

To sum up, the manager of Valu-Mart stores fails to present enough well-grounded evidence to convince me the office-supply departments will be the most profitable one of his stores. To better support his conclusion, he shall give me more information about the survey and the reason to increase stock of office supplies.
