All students should be required to take courses in the sciences, even if they have no interest in science. (新)
angeikim:
against:
1. the duty and function of university is to provide freedom, for instance academic study/research/thinking,etc, to people who are involved in it.
if we require all the students to take courses related to science, that means we grab their rights of free learning.
2. interest is one's best teachers. if students are not interested in science at all and whatz the benefit they could obtain from this approach?
3. the balance between all subjects.
if university lays emphasis on studying science, it will end up as unbalanced development of all the subjects.

1.science including the fundamental laws and principles of this world we live in. it is necessary for one to understand them, or it will be very hard for one to live. (say, if one didn't know the electricity is harmful to the human body, one would touch it...)
2.on the basis of science could we create, even a musician need to know some knowledge of the frequency or pitch of sound to create fair music...
3.Certainly, one student reach higher education, say as one enters college, they should not be forced to study science but choose whatever they are intereted in.
呵呵,记得我原来写过一篇A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer. 虽然和第三篇不太相同,但其中我是强调学习的兴趣和自动性的,呵呵。变态的ETS。

我第三题的观点和你的差不多,也是partly agree
It is necessary for people to absorb some basic rules and principles of science in order to fully develop their mentality and personality.
The result of one's lacking of basic knowledge of science can be detrimental to one's daily life, say, ......
In addition, taking some basic courses in science such as maths can greatly develop one's logical thinking and reasoning ability which is beneficial to many other specific fields of study, even the field of pure arts.
However, overemphysizing the study of science may lead to unbalanced education. Higher education should provide students with a free atmosphere in what they are interested in learning. At the stage of further study, it is significant for students to study what they are interested in and good at. The requirement of studying science inclusively at this stage of learning can turn out to be both unreasonable and detrimental.
lemonzz:
one's interests is the most effective stimulus to learn and study.whithout interest, any subject being learnt should seems boring,in which we could achieve little, even, no advance.therefore, students should mainly studies depends on their own interests.
but certain studies of most important science are indispensable, such as math, which students majors art may not use it often, still works from time to time. For example, poeple majoring language also buy commodities like those majors others with money, and itt would be incredible to see they can't caculate the money should be cost. And science always benefits us in other ways.
In conclusion, although ingenial, students should call a balance between their interests and needs. |
