TOPIC: ISSUE48 - "The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."

The great individuals in history are heros, revolutionists, leaders, scientists and so forth. They are the people who are respected and worshiped by normal peole, and to some extent, they are representitives of certain times.

On the one hand, when modern people want to study politics history of one country, the study of leaders of this country are the most important part. If having a view on arts history, we can find that every field of arts, such as music, painting or sculpting, has some individuals who have all traits of a period of each arts history. What's more, when turning to the history of the field of physics, we will see that there are only a few individuals who established the modern system of the discipline of physics. Take Einstein for example, his theory of relativity was extremely hard to understand, and it is said that only there poeple could catch what in the theory of relativity. In addition, another prominent physicist Nowton, who discovered and found the theory of gravitation, and three theories of motion, made great contributions to Physics, because of what people named the three theories of motion by his name. In the study of histoy of such fields, it is better to focus on such individuals, as the breakthrough ideas were proposed and estanblished by them.

On the other hand, as the speaker said, the most significant events and trends in history were made by group of people whose identities have long been forgotten, the funtion of the masses should not be ignored. Without the support and participation of such people, any significant events could not have been acomplished. The history reserchers have great interests on how human beings are developing generation by generation and how their different societies formed. World War Two almost changed the economic and political situations around the globle, and it influence is so prolonged that any war can not purpass. When we mention wars, soliders are most fundamental element, and the won of any war not only deponds on the leaders' wise decisions, but lies on the executors of such decision. The number and quality of soliders play equaly important role as other factors which determine which side would win the war. Moreover, the study of history of culture is a clear example which shows the significance of analyzing people at that times, under that circumstance. Only study few individuals can not reach any useful conclusion about characteristics of people or culture.

In sum, any study of history should decide on its own term, some are history of masses, others are history of great individuals. There is no absolute way to deal with all studies of history.
