Ten years ago, maybe we communicate with people by traditional ways such as meeting or writing. Today how many people still write a letter to their friends instead of by the Internet? But does the meaningful and thoughtful communication disappear or reduce? The answer is "No" .However, I cannot agree with the speaker that high-speed electronic communications media, such as electronic mail and television, tend to prevent meaningful and thoughtful communication. Some new ways of communication is becoming more and more important to our lives and bring us meaningful and thoughtful communication as well.

Admittedly, in some respects high-speed electronic communications media indeed tend to prevent meaningful and thoughtful communication. For example, television, as the speaker said, is a less effective method to communicate than before. In the past, members in a family are more likely to get around a television and watch their favorite programs together and then say something about what they have seen and thought. Or they may be write to each other to talk about something which is meaningful and thoughtful. With electronic communications media growing, the chance that people meet each other is becoming smaller and smaller .A survey issued by the Department of Sociology at Lancaster University suggest that 31.7% people in the society does not like to participate in family parties to communicate with other family members, which is two times of the number ten years ago. And the numbers of people who want to write a letter to their friends instead of by Internet is even less. At this point, electronic communication media seems to prevent meaningful and thoughtful communication in these ways.

However, high-speed electronic communications media actually make people communicate meaningfully and thoughtfully in other respects, such as MSN, blog and electronic email, which are even more effective. Before the electronic communications media existing, people can only communicate with whom they know very well and live near to .With the development of science and technology ,the limits of communication is extending and the appearance of meaningful and thoughtful communication is becoming easier. Modern methods can make two persons who have never met each other communicate very naturally. For example, by Web-based communication such as MSN, people can communicate in a more economical and convenient way. Skim through the blog of other people whose thought is similar can easily make thinking crash, so that meaningful and thoughtful communication can come into being. The electronic email can make people keep lasting and close connection with each other. People are more likely willing to express their thoughts or views on the line because through this approach people can say what they want to say without thinking too much things like their status , reputation , responsibility and so on, which can promote the meaningful and thoughtful communication.

In conclusion, ways people communicate with other people is changing. But the meaningful and thoughtful communication still exists. Not only is it prevented, but also the kinds of methods to produce meaningful and thoughtful communication are extending with the progressive of society and this makes us talk with persons all over the world and speak out what we dare not say in the past days. Base on this fact, we can say, the function of electronic communications media is not prevention but promotion.
