09.05.30NA Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Younger school children (age’s five to ten) should be required to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language.
Should younger children be required to study art and music, as the author asserts? As far as I am concerned, younger children should study not only math, science, history and language but also art and music, which help children to discover talents and appreciate beauty.
Admittedly, younger school children should study math, science, history and language. Math and language are basic skills for children, which help them to deal with daily things in the future. Science reveals mysterious phenomena and helps us to understand the world we live in, such as the formation of mountains and lakes, the motion of objects and the classification of animals. History is an essential aspect of a nation’s culture and key value system. As a famous man says, history makes people wise. Mistakes of the past can teach us as a society how to avoid repeating those mistakes. For example, the lessons learned from all of the past wars can contribute to a more effective wartime leadership by avoiding mistakes ever made by past commanders.
Secondly, art and music ought to be learned by younger school children. By learning art and music, some children’s talents in art may be discovered. Consider Mozart as an example. The great composer could play piano three years old and write score even four years old. If Mozart didn’t have received music education, the talents of the great composer would have been buried. Besides, through learning art, children may observe the world and then use their splendid imagination to express their feelings and thoughts, helping them to form the habit of thinking. Moreover, children can learn how to appreciate beauty and aesthetics. For example, children who learn painting may know how to match color.
Last but not least, there are many aspects and ways provided by arts that can educate children, such as movie, literature, paintings, which may call interests of children. The movie 2012 reminds children of environmental protection. With the development of technology, the pollution is more and more severe. If nations as well as common people ignore the changes in climate and environment, the coming of 2012 is inevitable. Then children may have a sense that they should save water or recycle rubbish to protect our earth.
Taking all these factors mentioned above into consideration, we may safely draw the conclusion that art and music are as significant as math, science, history and language, since children should have overall development. |
