UK PhD Studentship in university of southampton – Seeking a good candidate with a Master Degree in Materials/Metallurgy science
‘MEMS Components formed from Nanostructural Metals’
School of Engineering Sciences
A PhD studentship is now available within the Materials Research Group, School of Engineering Sciences (SES).
For EU/UK applicants, this studentship covers University tuition fees (at EU/UK level: £3,168 p.a.) and provide a tax-free bursary of £12,300 per year, this is, in total of £15,468 per year, for a three-year duration.
Overseas applicants are legible to apply this studentship and can get the total of £15,468 if success. But they need to prove that they can find the difference of £9532 (£12700 (overseas student fee) - £3,168 (EU/UK students fee)) by their own (family or company), either to pay tuition fee or living allowance.
SES is a top 5* rated research school with an international reputation. The successful candidate will work with a group of highly motivated, first class research students in the areas of aerospace and automotive engineering, electronic materials, surface engineering and nano & micro-electromechanical systems. The aims of this research are to develop an innovative technology for the application of nanostructured aluminium alloys, obtained by severe plastic deformation, to components of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS); to investigate the microstructures and properties of these components; to model and simulate both the equal channel angular processing (ECAP) and embossing processes, and also to explore their future potential applications.
Entry requirements: A good Master degree in materials/metallurgy science, is required, and some experience in computer-based modelling or computer programming would be an advantage.
The School is a diverse community which is committed to creating an inclusive working and learning environment in which all individuals are equally treated and valued, and can achieve their potential. The School considers all studentship applications in relation to academic criteria and regardless of the individual's race, gender, or belief.
