Time: 40 minutes; 343 words.
The ability of dealing with several different things simultaneously has become one of the most important measurements in 21st century which Americans weigh their value. That names multitasking, which has various demonstrations. For example, when your have lunch at desk table, calling a customer, researching e-mails, and looking through the memos, why should you go out for a dinner? Further, if you can use your cell-phone at watching TV, why do you just deal with the routine work? So fulfilling and satisfied it is to accomplish three jobs at the time of doing one thing. And this kind of efficiency makes those who turned the job-list to an art of management one’s time will brag: “look at me, how many things I can handle at the same time. If I could be such busy, I will be a big one.”
However, the New York house of representation denunciated to these kinds of things last week, at least at driving. It passed a bill to ban drivers using cell-phone. The parliament said that it is too dangerous, and recited an investigation that it is 4 times to crash when using cell-phone than no use.
No one could be opposed to effectively use time, but along with that are losses. Imaging such a case, a lady went to the rural for a walk. As she walking, she strode quickly, lowing his head, listening his cell-phone, and ignoring birds, followers and sunshine. Has this kind of walk meant anything?
Decades ago, long before the multitasking become a word in everyday speech, a retired professor of theology who kept in touch with me came up with the single-task method, which meant one time doing one thing, is reasonable. He took a simple instance. He said: “When you wash your dishes, you only have to wash them.”
Perhaps the ban of using cell-phone at driving will cause a motion of being opposite to other multitasking. Who knows it? That may embody that it is the first pace of people to think what is really composed of productivity and performance.

The ability of dealing with several different things simultaneously has become one of the most important measurements in 21st century which Americans weigh their value(the ability to do several thing at once has become one of the great measure of self-worth for 21st century Americans: at once 同时;self-worth 自我价值). That names multitasking(it is called multitasking: 被称作是), which has various demonstrations(and it takes many forms: 有..形式take … forms). For example(as one example代替for example), when your have lunch at desk table, calling a customer, researching e-mails, and looking through the memos, why should you go out for a dinner(why go out to lunch when you can eat at your desk, talk to a client on the phone, scroll through your e-mail, and scan a memo simultaneously: at table 或at the desk; scroll through your e-mail ,scroll滚动荧幕,学会这个词;scan代替look through)? Further, if you can use your cell-phone at watching TV, why do you just deal with the routine work(why simply work out on treadmill: work out 解决,弄出;treadmill 单调无味的工作)? So fulfilling and satisfied(what a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment: 成就感和满足感a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment) it is to accomplish three jobs at the time of doing one thing(three activities for the time commitment of one: for the … commitment of 以…为代价,可以做对比用,要学会用). And this kind of efficiency makes those who turned the job-list to an art of management one’s time(a time-management art) will brag(are incline to boast: be incline to 表倾向于,be incline to 和tend to 要用;boast 代替brag): “look at me, how many things I can handle at the same time. If I could be such busy, I will be a big one.”
However, the New York house of representation denunciated to(struck a blow against: strike a blow for,拥护,strike a blow against 反对,要学会用) these kinds of things last week, at least at driving(at least behind wheel). It passed a bill to ban drivers using cell-phone(it approved a bill banning drivers from using handheld phone: 通过法案做approve a bill doing; 禁止做ban … from doing sth.注意要有from). The parliament said that it is too dangerous, and recited an investigation(citing research showing that: recite背诵,cite 引用) that it is 4 times to crash (drivers are four times more likely to have a collision: be four times more likely to, be likely to do + four times more )when using cell-phone than no use.
No one could be opposed to effectively use time(on one can argue against using time effectively: argue against 代替disapprove of , be opposite to + n.), but along with that are losses(but accompanying the gains are losses: 一定要学会这一句,“有得必有失”). Imaging such a case, a lady went to the rural for a walk(consider a lady out for an early-morning walk: 直接用consider 引出例子). As she walking, she strode quickly, lowing his head, listening his cell-phone(she strides briskly, head down, cellphone clamped to her ear, chattering away: 学会这样的描写句子,主句she strides briskly, 状语head down形容词,状语cell phone clamped 过去分词,状语chattering 现在分词), and ignoring birds, followers and sunshine(oblivious of the birds and follows and glorious sunshine: oblivious of 代替ignore 要学会用!). Has this kind of walk meant anything(did the walk have any value: 有意义吗have any value)?
Decades ago, long before the multitasking become a word in everyday speech(a word in everyday use: 日常用语), a retired professor of theology who kept in touch with me came up with the single-task method, which meant one time doing one thing(the old-fashioned practice of doing one thing at a time: 过去老的做法the old-fashioned practice of), is reasonable. He took a simple instance(made a case for what might be called uni-tasking: 为…举例说明make a case for…). He said: “When you wash your dishes, you only have to wash them.(when you wash the dishes, wash the dishes: when you do sth. do sth 该做神马事时,做神马)”
Perhaps the ban of using cell-phone at driving will cause a motion of being opposite to other multitasking(the ban on phoning-on-the-road will even spark a move away from other forms of dual activity: ban on sth. 关于… 的禁令; spark vt.导致vi.出现火花,spark a move,导致下一步的行动). Who knows it(who can tell更好)? That may embody that it is the first pace of people to think what is really composed of productivity and performance(it can mark the first step in a welcome reconsideration of what really constitutes productivities and accomplishment: it can mark the first step in … 成为了…. 开始的标志,学会用这个表的! Constitute 构成, be composed of由…组成, compose 构成,组成). |
