The Photonics Group in the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography of the Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada has immediate openings for graduate studies to carry out research on the theme of ultrafast nano-photonics through photonic materials and devices. The research will use tunable femtosecond lasers, scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM/NSOM), fiber-optic systems, mass spectrometer, and vacuum deposition systems to study interactions of ultrafast lasers with matters, organic photonics (polymer solar cells). The self-motivated candidates are expected to have a background in physics, or engineering, or material science. Knowledge on optics is needed. All applicants accepted into the graduate program in this research group receive full scholarships. Starting date will be September 2012 or later. Details on the research group can be found at http://www.mun.ca/physics/people/faculty/chen.php Interested applicants should contact Dr. Qiying Chen (qiyingc@mun.ca) with a CV and a statement of research interests.
