So much is new and complex today that looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in the present.

As the development of the science and technology, there are increasing new and complex things in people's everyday life. Facing enormous new things, some people consider that looking back to the past will not be beneficial to the life of today. As far as I am concerned, things happened in the past still can guide people, as discussed below.

To begin with, there is actually growing number of new and complex things needing to be recognized with new perspectives. Firstly, the computer and the Internet based on the computer are widely used near all over the world, and people have to learn the advanced knowledge and technology to master them and use them efficiently. In addition, there are more and more disciplines interplaying each other such as bioinformatics and biochemistry which needs advanced knowledge to understand and research them. When it comes to these respects, people consider that what happened in the past-history-will not help and lead people.

However, although there are many new and complicated things now, this is not to say that look back to what happed in history will not guide current people. As a matter of fact, people can learn much from what have happened. Firstly, people can learn the mistakes in the history in order to avoid them. Consider, for example, in the 1920s, the Soviet Union attempted to control the direct and goal of the scientific research. During that period, the Soviet Union did not care for the welfare of the public, it not only control the development of the scientific research, but damage the laboratory, which he considered jeopardize his administration. By learning this case, the government can avoid committing the same mistake. Hence, history can help people in avoiding mistakes.

Secondly, the great figures can motivate the current people. History has witnessed countless cases in which many scientists devoted themselves to the development of the science. A telling example is Copernicus. After hard work and computation, Copernicus discovered that it is the sun, not the earth, the center of the solar system. Consider, for example, Curie. Curie devoted herself to the development of the radiation. She always worked hard and did not pay much attention to her interests. When the America government promised to give a kilo Ra to herself, she let the government revised the contract in order to avoid that Ra belonged to her family after her death. She considered that the Ra belonged to the human beings. Edison can inspire us to work without giving up facing failure.  Both of these cases can inspire people to strive for their goals. Moreover, people can learn great spirit from the leaders, Gandhi, as well as Jean of Arc and Martin Luther King. All of them are praised by their persistence and never give up facing serious situation. Consequently, people can learn from them when they face difficult things.

Finally, history can help us better understand the current things. For supporting example, one needs to look no further than California. Most people may wonder why there are two languages as the official languages. If they look back the history, they will know the answer. When California was given to U.S. from Mexico, the treaty stipulated that both Spanish and English should be the official languages. Thus, after knowing this information, people will understand the reason of bilingual languages in California.

To sum up, as the development of the technology and increasing pace of life, everything seems new and complex; therefore, people should need new perspectives to treat these things. However, what happened in the past can teach us in many respects.
