47"Society does not place enough emphasis on the intellect—that is, on reasoning and other cognitive skills."

Whether the society should put more emphasis on the intellect or cognition? This question becomes a focus in the nowadays society. In my point of view, I agree that although the reasoning cognition will contribute a lot to the social harmony, the intellect far outweigh than it.

Admittedly, the overdue suppression to the reasoning and healthy emotions will do harm to a person psychologically, especially in the ear of intense competition to survival. The daily work and life in high speed burden the people, by which they are frustrated and depressed. The mental illness becomes to be a social focus in most of countries. It is often reported nowadays that someone who achieve the socioeconomics success, however, suicides himself or herself for the reason of psychology. We can conclude from these examples that a health mentality ensure a health living.

However, in most circumstances, the intellect acts as a more important role in the society to maintain the social equity and justice. Without intellect, people will render their intellectual decision to the emotional ones such as hatred, greed, lust, jealousy, by which will contribute to the unjustness, racial discrimination, even holy wars. We do not need to look further than the ordinary things in our lives. For examples, on business, if a company's promotion is based on the familiarity with the boss rather than the profession, then this company certainly will result in corruption. On law, if the law-officer judge a person is guilty or not based on the emotions rather than the intellect, then even the killer may have the chance to be innocent. On society, the people of diverse race may feel enmity toward each other for the different beliefs, by which conduce to the outburst of the war. As a whole, the social system will be broken and society will be driven to the bedlam if without intellectual thinking.

Some people may claim that the overdue emphasis on intellect will do harm to the genius artists who create the works by their cognition to the world, and their imagination and creativity. However, I think these people neglect that how can a painter draw a painting without paint brush, and how can a writer compose an article without pen. To begin their creation, they must learn how to use their tools and fundamental principals with their intellect first, then to establish a perfect bridge between intellect and emotions.

To sum up, I concede the reasoning and cognitive skills are essential to a social member especially the artists. However, the intellect plays much more important effect on most of circumstances to maintain the social peace, and which is also the base of cognitions.
