As the wheels of society and culture turn at their accelerating and eternal velocities into the 21st century, education has been receiving more and more attention. How to educate, as the map of education, is especially frequently talked about. Among all the diverse suggestions, one method is declared by a part of people to be "truly effective" that education be designed to meet each student's needs and interests. This method, seemingly suitable for everyone, may have certain disadvantages, doubting its own effectiveness.

To discuss about this intricate problem, what has to be shown first is the function of education. Different from what recognized by the majority of social persons, education does not only include formal education ranging from primary school to college, but also contains teaching by parents, learning in the society and so on. All aspects of education working together to turn one certain individual from ignorant infants into well-informed adults by telling them knowledge, from physical human beings into mental ones by showing them how to think, from isolated persons into social elements by dissolving them in the whole society, as well as prevent the persons from being a prisoner by discipline in accordance with laws, and get those individuals acceptable by the civil culture.

Considering the current education is apt to cast students with a constant die, this very approach attracts warm welcome because of the claimed advantage that it can adapt to the individual situation of each student, such as her or his aptitude, interest, capacity and needs. One fact proved by scientific studies is that the fast learning occurs when the students are interested in or in need of what is to be taught. Similarly, competent parents will never miss their dear children's questions of "why".

Knowledge, nevertheless, is not sufficient for an individual to be an integral element of the society, or at least to survive the culture. What education is aimed to instruct the student is to adjust the student according to the cultural criteria, which makes it more appropriate to say that education should meet the social needs than those of the student per se. In this sense, it is prone to derive conflicts between education and individual interests and needs. A more intriguing and understandable explain is that one thousand students can earn one thousand diverse interests and needs, the relationship of which may not be harmony. In the case that education meets all the individual need, there is bound to be controversy or controversies.

What is more, the interests and needs are both changing, attributing to the person's age, career, family, marriage, and other factors in her or his life, as well as the changes of society itself. These changes contribute to the difficulty for education in always catering to the human interests and needs, leading this approach in question on feasible.

In contrast, there must be a portion of people proposing that the social changes can cover those changes in human interests and needs. What neglected by them, however, is that the paces of both society fluctuations and those of culture are so small that before the situation is overturned, several generations might have gone, leaving the fluctuations neglectable.

Education, a building block of human culture, is definitely a vital component of society. The way of meeting the individual needs and interests of each student, tantalizingly plausible, is actually neither sensible nor feasible.

A more intriguing and understandable explain ,你这里的explain是想解释什么呢,解释前面的conflict between education and individual interests and needs吗?你这一段应该是想讲student-centered education的不好之处吧?就我的理解,我觉得你这一段讲了两个意思,1.这样会和社会对education的要求相冲突2.无法顾及到所有的学生的兴趣. 不知道我的理解对不对.

还有就是我对你的第二段不是太理解,你这一段说的是教育的分类,和它对人的帮助,可是它和你后面的论述有什么联系呢?刚又看了下你的文章,有点理解第二段了,第二段就是一个衡量教育方式是否effective的标准,对吧?
你的语言我觉得挺好的,就不说什么了.说得有不对的地方,请见谅.
