The following appeared in a letter sent by a committee of homeowners from the Deerhaven Acres to all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres.
'Seven years ago, homeowners in nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted. Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting.'

In this letter, the arguer commends that all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres should adopt a set of restrictions on how community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted in order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres. To substantiate this advice, the arguer mentions the seemingly similar example of the houses of Brookville community. The arguer, however, ignores certain important concerns, which must be addressed to prove. In my point of view, this argument suffers from several flaws as followed.

First of all, the arguer provides no evidence that the augmentation of the property value in Brookville was caused by the restrictions the house owners adopted. The average value depends on many factors, besides the appearance of houses. It might be a huge shopping mall, which was built nearby lately, enhance the land price of the whole area. Or maybe a celebrity moved to Brookville last year, and the high ratio that the houses were pictured on newspapers and magazines benefited the value. Either scenario would provide an alternative explanation for the increase in property values.

Meanwhile, the other fatal flaw of the argument is that the stated similarities between Deerhaven Acres and Brookville are insufficient to support the conclusion that Deerhaven Acres will suffer a fate similar to that of Brookville, even if it is the appearance factors determine the advance of the value of Brookville. Maybe the houses of Deerhaven Acres have diverse structures or the courtyards are all distinguished which do not suitable to unify the landscapes, while those of the houses in Brookville are all identical. Moreover, there might be counterproductive if the committee makes restrictions for these houses in Deerhaven Acres. If there are several races of clans lives in the avenue, appearances of the homes might be a sign to separate one from each other. Once they unify the house paintings or landscapes of the buildings, a conflict might break out. Considering such possible dissimilarities of the two places, the committee cannot assume what resulted in rising property values in Brookville would bring the same outcomes in Deerhaven Acres.

In conclusion, if the arguer wants to demonstrate his or her assumption, he should offer evidences which can clearly prove it is the factor of appearance raises the value of Brookville, and try to substantiate all the relative situations of two places are the same.
