One item often debated if the function of the academic disciplines. Concerning with the situation of common people, what an academic discipline changes is the eyes with which people perceive the world, that is to say, the way in comprehending things all around.

First of all, when students or other people receive an instruction in science, they tend to consider the world in more scientific and systematic methods. Before exposing to any discipline in science, individuals are inclined to interpret the world as a complex of all sorts of discrete items, which seems to be without order and without relationship. How can an ignorant child relate electricity with magnetism? And then, persons are indebted to science for it teaches them hundreds of thousands of connections between and among superficially divergent things. By the same token, the child would sooner or later notice the substantial identity of electricity and magnetism once she or he came across the Maxwell Equation. Not only does science exhibit relations or even identifications in front of human beings, but it also train them how to efficiently arrange daily lives in its instinctive approach. One simple yet explicit example involves the arrangement of time when one has to boil water, wash rice and cook it concerning with their distinguished cost in time. Without the training a decent training in mathematic, one is likely to fulfill the task in a random order, compared with a sufficiently educated person carry out the process in a most efficient series. Moreover, the study in science helps to enable people's feeling of space and orientation, therefore making them aware of the integrity of the world.

Secondly, thanks to art, people are no longer unconscious with the outside. While an art neophyte is most probable to perceive the around intrinsically or even just to be absent of emotion or affection, another individual experiencing the psychological absolution of art--no matter whether it is music, painting, architecture, or ballet--instead senses all the accidents and incidents with a merciful and amiable propensity. As a result, concerning with the style of architecture in Chinese Palace Museum, an art-trained tourist is more likely to notice the connection between the overwhelming palaces and the cupidity within humanity, rather than simply marvel at the significance of them.

Last but not least, it is the discipline in social items that prevent humans from being isolated portions, but attaches them each as an indispensable or integral element of the whole society. When children get in touch with the community at large for the first time, they may merely realize the immense population or the widespread domain of earth. Only after the education--not limited to the formal ones in schools, but also includes those in families and communities--would they truly understand the affinity with one another. Unfortunately, the more realization in politics citizens possess, the more cynical they seem to be, since besides the universal relation all around, they are also conscious with the compromise the government made between its opponents and its supporters, which replaces the former impression as a "dear leader". Furthermore, nevertheless, when even more studies are carried out, they may again understand such deeds in light of the interests of both leaders and the holistic stability and prosperity of society.

Admittedly, as a conclusion, the study of an academic discipline modifies the "social eyes" of ordinary people. Though the world does evolves in certain paces, disciplines provide the population with corresponding perspective in order to make a closer examination the nature and substance of not only the society but also the culture as well as nature per se.
