Issue51: 552 words 45 minutes
Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.
Should education be designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student in order to be truly effective? The speaker says yes. As to me, it is undeniable that interests and needs play a vital role in education. However, it is impossible for education to satisfy each student.
Admittedly, interests and needs play a considerable part in an effective education. As people always say interests are the best teachers. When people are interested in one subject, they will treat the study as a joy rather than drudgery; consequently they will definitely try their best to absorb more knowledge in this field to better understand the subject. Active study is usually the most efficiency study method. To the contrary, if one is impelled to study something they do not like or even hate it, they will be sick of the subject, and consequently may be disgusted of learning. Meanwhile, education should take care of the students' needs. This demonstrates the schools’ recognition of their students. It is human nature that wishes to attain emphasis from others. Students, whose needs are always be neglected, would feel frustrated and discontent with schools, and finally may be unwilling to go to school.
However, the students' needs and interests are changing all the time, which makes it difficult for education to adjust to them. People's needs and interests will definitely change along with the time. During this ceaseless alteration, they will finally seek their true interests. Generally speaking, students are still in search of what they really want. What they are interested in today will be thrown over by them the second day. So, if the education wants to satisfy every student, it has to modify its curriculum every day. Apparently, it is mission impossible.
Moreover, the number of students is far more than that of teachers, thus makes the education which aims to fulfill the students' needs and interests impossible. People always say that there are never two leaves which are much the same. This could be applied to students. Every student has its peculiar interests and needs. It is impossible to find two students with pretty much the same interests. Consequently, in order to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, the amount of teachers should equate with that of the students. However, the fact is that there are far fewer teachers than students in our society. For this reason, the education, which could meet the needs and interests of all students, is only a dream.
Last but not least, the purpose of the education is to cultivate person with ability for our society not meet each student's desires and interests. The true effective education is the one could foster as many talent people who could contribute a lot to our society and thus prosper our society. For this aim, schools always require students to learn some fundamental courses, such as physics, math and biology. This may conflicts with the students' needs and interests to some extent. Obviously, there are students who are uninterested in those fundamental courses. Nevertheless, it is impossible for a student to not study such courses.
To sum up, according to the analysis above, education should not overlook the students' needs and interests. Whereas, it is unwise for education to fulfill the students' needs and interests entirely. |
