Issue36
36 The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, but not their contemporaries.
Syllabus;
1. stating point: partially agree with the author.
2. the opposite point.
3. agree with the author.
4. conclusion.
Close scrutiny of this statement reveals that there is an extreme word "only", which undermines the conscientiousness of the claim and enables it partially unconvincing. As it is concerned, I consider that the greatness of individuals can be decided by both their contemporaries and those who live after them, which is due to the time when their attributions are fully understood and accepted by people, and actually exert an influence, beneficent or deleterious, on society.
With the rapid development happening in economy and society, people become to comprehend and make benefits from new theories and innovations more quickly than ever before, which puts a vast measure of new ideas and conventions into practice and dramatically affect the society in a short period. These magic all too often occurs in intellectual Technology (short for IT) realm. In this area, a large number of advanced technology is speedily used to the great extend, therefore he development of IT is so percussively expedite that people can hardly catch its foot without unremitting studying. For example, Bill Gate's advanced conception about Windows not only prevents American economy from persistent regression, but also prompts its process, which is an uncontroversial fact in his period and he is naturally worshipped by his contemporaries. I regard that Bill Gate's household greatness attributes to his notion forwardly understood and accepted by public. Moreover, avoiding to be precluded from modern computer technology, people tend to continuously study it and idol its master-IT heroes or heroines. Another representative domain is economics. As well-known to everyone, economics is a tremendously pragmatic field, which emphasizes scholars more concentrating on the practical utility of their researches. After bring out a new theory, the research will immediately put it into practice to examine its feasibility. If the theory is proved to be correct and effective, the research will be diffusely revered.
However, there are some individuals whose greatness can be esteemed by descendants rather than their peers. In common sense, a host of ordinary people whose viewpoints and knowledge limited by their circumstances, fail to have capacity to comprehend some individuals complex and profound theories and inventions. These achievements can only be left to posterities to judge and evaluate according to their more affluent knowledge and open perspectives so that their greatness can be discerned after a long time, maybe several years, a decade, even a century. These situations more often happen in Physics. In this territory, a new theory is usually so extraordinarily innovative and complicated that their peers, who are the scientists in the same sphere, have few abilities to catch it let alone the common people. The typical example is Einstein's renowned Relativism, which is disregarded by his contemporaries, is totally appreciated by later generations and exerts an tremendous influence on Physics now. Also, there exists a vast quantity of examples in Economics, which often occur in our surroundings. My professor, an outstanding scholar in chinese economics area, had advised Hainan, a province in southern China, to executive circulation economy to more effectively take advantage of resources and protect environment to the great extend. However, the government refused to adopt the advanced suggestion since that they hardly heard about is let alone understand and practise it. Now, the situation dramatically changing and circulation economy begins to be extremely prevailing.
In conclusion, the greatness of individuals is firstly decided by their contemporaries yet those who live after them, only when their peers can not evaluate their contributions because of limited knowledge and perspectives, their greatness will be appreciated by descendants.
