11. "All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."

The speaker asserts that all nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world’s most persistent social problems. While I concede that there are still many persistent social problems which exert influence on the world peace and are need to address, however, I do not agree that all nations should construct a global university whose aim is to teach students to solving national problems.

Admittedly, many persistent problems indeed exist and always persecuted the governments. Sometime, they could also spark some conflicts among different countries, and affect national citizens. Just like that the energy problem is a troubled problem which always conduce wars among countries sometimes involving millions of life. The Iraq war is a good example fighting for oils. In addition, controversial due to sovereignties of countries are never halted. Take Taiwan in china for example, even if it is not saying goes that Taiyuan is a part of china, there are still many people who hinder the unity of china. All these examples illustrate the existence of persistent problems.

However, even though those unrelenting problems are there and need to deal with, I do not believe that setting up a global university is the only way to solve the problems. As many lying problems, different countries’ authorities have different standpoints about these problems. It is not easy to attain a common view for many decades. Hence, even if the university is constructed, different teachers will give various methods to address a problem, it may still not acquire a consensus. Also, even if the teachers attain a common view about a problem and the students learn it, whether it can apply in practice is still a trouble. Because of the different position, the governments of different countries may reluctant to utilize the methods to the problem for the sake of their own profits. As a consequence, funding a university to solving national problems is still a controversial issue.

Moreover, before supply enormous fund to construct a university; we should weigh its value, and consider whether it is worth to do. In light of the reasons above, and considered that there are many immediate problem to tangle, it maybe unwarranted. As we all know, there are still millions of people dying everyday because of starvation. Perhaps, it can generate more benefits to help these people using the financial of constructing the university.

In addition, entering such university, students have to learn according to the arrangement of courses which are most relative with the national problems. For that matter, many students with gift in other aspects will not be excavated, which is also a waste of talents. In this point, establishing a global university could also produce harm.

In conclusion, from what has been discussed above, even though there are still persistence problems which influence the world, I do not support to construct a global university which will help to search ways to address the national social problems. Perhaps it will be a good idea, only after most consensuses have been got and we had more capability to fund it.
