• total scholarships: 2 (13600 Euro/year)
• University grants: 1
• scholarships without grant: 1
• duration: 3 years.
  

If public or private funding should be available, further grants will be offered.
The school features three PhD programs:

• Doctoral Program in Mathematics and Informatics
• Doctoral Program in Systems Engineering and Informatics
• Doctoral Program in Operations Research
  

Applicants admitted to the school will be assigned to one of theabove three programs, based on their Curriculum Vitae and on theirResearch project

The purpose of the School is the training of researchers andprofessional people highly qualified in the informatics, mathematics,operational research, telematics and automation disciplines withtraining activities that strengthen logical-deductive thought.
These research areas are of great scientific importance and notableapplicative interest for industry and for the advanced tertiary sector.The Doctorate School offers significant possibilities of in depth studyand of participation avant-garde research in the mathematical sciencesand information technologies, which include informatics, operationalresearch, automation, electronic systems, logistics, measurement tools,telecommunications networks, decision-making support systems.
The recent indications of the EU and Italian governmental organs,clearly identify one of the fundamental preconditions for thedevelopment of the Information Society as the training of youths with ahigh profile of skills in the field of the sciences and informationtechnologies.
The preparation of young PhD students is therefore focused in thisdirection, with the objective of providing them with an in depth andcomplete preparation both from a scientific point of view and from atechnical-engineering one.
The inclusion of arguments that are both effective and common to thedifferent disciplines serves to provide important and transversalmethodological knowledge. Some examples of arguments useful to theseaims are:

• Symbolic systems
• The scientific method
• Measurement theory
• Systems theory
• Probability theory
• Communication theory
• Philosophy of science fundamentals and research methodology
• Technical-scientific English.
  

These transversal arguments are studied mainly in the first year ofpreparation by the PhD students of the School, who will also acquire asolid common basic preparation. In the following two years, thepreparation has a more specialised nature, according to thespecificities of the three doctorate programmes into which the Schoolis divided:

• Mathematics and Informatics,
• Operational Research,
• Systems and Computer Engineering.
