Since long time ago, scandals are something powerful that can bring significant change in our lives. Especially when countries applied democratically policy, if a scandal appears, it fast grasps civilians’ eyes; and then with the power of people and belief of democratic, the politics, academia or other areas- which have the scandal- will be greatly impacted. Therefore, I am confident that scandals can quickly focus our attention on problems in ways that many other thing hardly can.
In the history, there were lots of scandals have significant influence in politics and academia, which quickly drew civilians attention. For examples, in politics area, the Watergate issue is a famous one. It is the first time; people began to consider and doubt the fairness in the president election process, which was regarded as fair, hallow and filled with glory for a long time. Since that, people started to care more about the election process, as well, more and more politicians started to pay more attention to their behavior, their speech in order to avoid being caught by their opponents. Not only the American, but also the whole world began to gradually apply some supervisor system in election process since the Watergate issue. What makes this more interesting is that, just before the issue, there had been lots of people who announced that supervisor system should be enhanced, while no people take announcement seriously. Similarly, there were many scandals in politics area in the history, and most of them did pull people's attention and make great impact to the politics. As well, scandals in other area can quickly attract people, such as in academia. Several years ago, there was a Korean professor who was awarded for his outstanding achievement in clone area. But the honor lasted not long; people found that the professor faked some data in the key experiment which contributed to his great honor. And because of this scandal, people's attention was leaded to the ivory tower. For a period of time, people confidently believe that academia, school and campus are just like the ivory tower, because they are clean, honest, and they are not polluted by the interests, money and power outside. However, this issue just forces us to see the truth, force us to pay more attention to the academic area. Therefore, the scandals are powerful and can efficiently focus our attention on the problems in many areas.
Meanwhile, in the history there were lots of people tried to inform and warn us something; however other people just did not take them seriously. In the 1970s, just before Kennedy's death, some persons tried to warn us that there were some people in the shadow which threatened the United States. But most civilians just thought these people were insane. Lately, when the US president was killed, people did realize that they were not living in heaven as those speaker said. Similarly, just when the World War II began, some people suggested the US government to react to the war; but the politicians just believed they were in the place far from war fire, and what they concerned most was how to make more profit through the war. Finally, after the Pearl Harbor issue, the crucial facts gave the US government an expensive lesson. What I conclude from the evidence above is that there were many people tried to lead people attention to the right direction, but they hardly made their progress. Because many people believe that those speakers are some ones who are always too caution and thinking too much. After all, there have to be some significant issues, such as scandals which will help to draw people's attention and force them to face the truth.
Admittedly, the scandals are something that powerful and can efficiently focus people attention to some key problems. Somehow, scandals are still something that not good and may bring bad effects to the society. Therefore, I think we should treat the scandals more careful and objective.
On the whole, I believe that the scandals are useful in focusing our attention on problems in many areas. And at the same time, we should objectively look at the scandals and try to reduce the bad effects of the scandals as much as possible.
这篇scandal的我感觉我写的就第一个论证段比较合理,第二个感觉有点牵强,不知各位能不能给点建议和idea?!~
TOPIC: ARGUMENT218 - The following appeared in a memorandum from the president of Hyper-Go Toy Company.
"Last year, sales of our Fierce Fighter toy airplane declined sharply, even though the toy had been a top seller for three years. Our customer surveys show that parents are now more worried about youthful violence and are concerned about better education for their children. Therefore, to maintain profits we should discontinue all our action toys and focus exclusively on a new line of educational toys. Several other toy companies have already begun marketing educational toys and report sales increases last year of 200 percent. And since the average family income is growing, sales of new Hyper-Go toys should also increase."

The author quotes that the Fierce Fighter toy airplane declination in order to support his conclusion that action toys show no promising future. And because of the more customers are concerned about better education for their children, the author claims educational toys may be best sale in the future. This conclusion seems logical and convincible; however there are still some defects in the proving process.
First of all, the author implies that the decline of Fierce Fighter toy is related to the trend of customers paying more attention to education. However, he fails to consider other factors that decrease the sale of Fierce Fighter toy. As we all know, the fashion is always changing rapidly, and the fashion around children cannot be exclusive. And when a toy has been hot for three years, it has chances to appear new toys to take its place, isn't it? Moreover, even the parents are concern more about the education for their children; still they are buying toys mainly to amuse their children or to meet children's desire. Therefore, no matter what the parents think, the main customers are the children, that is to say the most important element of a toy is to attracting children. In sum, the author fails to show us more information about the relation between the decline of Fierce Fighter and parents' concern about education, thus I can hardly agree with discontinuing all action toys.
After that, the author provides that lots of companies begun to produce educational toys and increased the sale of 200%. The increase seems attractive, however there is still some confusion. For examples, what is the real number of the increase? Maybe those companies are freshmen that even a 200% increase does not mean a great deal at all. Perhaps that 200% increase should be contributed to other kind of toys but not the educational toys. Moreover, even we admit that the educational toys sell well, do the Hyper-Go educational toys competitive with other companies for they have begun for a sometime, while the Hyper-Go is going to give up all action toys and just start to produce the educational toys? Hence, without more evidence that the educational toys are profitable enough, I don't suggest the Hyper-Go to adopt the author's idea.
Finally, the author says that the average family income is growing which promises a good selling of Hyper-Go's toys. I really doubt that the growing income of families will directly lead to the increase of toys sale. As the author says that more and more parents are paying more attention to children's education, which probably means if a family has more income, they may pay much for the children's education, such as better schools, more books and so on. No evidence shows that any family has great desire to buy more toys for their children when the income grows. Therefore, without more data and information to support the relation between the growing income and toys sale, the conclusion the author makes is less convincible.
On the whole, the reasoning and proof that the author makes seems logical, however without more evidence and information supported, I cannot easily share the same conclusion with the author.
