Successful applicants will enroll as TA or RA with monthly stipend. Possible research directions include wireless sensor networks, mobile computing, and embedded systems. For more information about possible research projects, please visit http://www.cse.msu.edu/~glxing/.
The CSE Department at MSU conducts leading-edge research in many areas. The graduate program of CSE has been ranked 18th in the USA among all computer science graduate programs in an article recently published in Communications of the ACM. MSU enjoys a large, park-like campus with outlying research facilities and natural areas. East Lansing, the home of MSU, is located directly east of Lansing, the capital of state of Michigan. East Lansing is known as a safe, beautiful, friendly city with very reasonable living cost.
Applicants should have a Bachelor or Master degree (or expect to receive the degree before enrollment at MSU) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related disciplines.Applicants with strong hands-on experiences in wireless networks/operating systems/embedded systems are particularly welcome to apply.
To apply, please email resume in PDF or txt (including the scores of *all* undergraduate/graduate level courses, the average score, class/department rank, English test scores (GRE/TOEFL), relevant research experience and publications) to Dr. Guoliang Xing (glxing@msu.edu) with subject "PhD applicant 2010". 3. 标 题: Virginia Tech Real-Time实验室招人信息
发信站: 水木社区 (Mon Sep 28 02:22:09 2009), 站内
替实验室老板发信招人,明年秋季入学为主。老板的email是binoy@vt.edu.
Applications are invited from outstanding MS students in Electrical Enginee
ring and Computer Science for PhD positions in Virginia Tech/ECE Department'
s Real-Time Systems Laboratory (http://www.real-time.ece.vt.edu/). Several P
hD positions with full financial support is available on a multi-year, US Na
tional Science Foundation sponsored project on developing abstractions, algo
rithms, and mechanisms for distributed synchronization using transactional m
emory (TM). Many research groups have recently come to the conclusion that l
ock-based synchronization is not scalable, seriously error-prone, and non-co
mposable, and that TM promises to alleviate many of these difficulties. Furt
hermore, TM is gaining significant traction as the performance and scalabili
ty of experimental TM systems on multicore architectures -- now ubiquitous -
- have been found to be excellent---e.g., most chip vendors now provide TM i
mplementations (in software or hardware) for their multicore systems.
Virginia Tech's NSF project aims to build upon these emerging results and de
velop distributed transactional memory as a mechanism for distributed synchr
onization. In addition to the previously mentioned problems, lock-based dist
ributed synchronization suffers from the problems of distributed cache coher
ence, node/network failures, and node joins/leaves, and the general difficul
ty of reasoning about, writing, and debugging distributed programs---RPC and
its derivative models are notoriously hard to get right, let alone synchron
izations within such models. Distributed TM promises to alleviate these. Vir
ginia Tech's preliminary results on this can be found in Relay: A Cache-Cohe
rence Protocol for Distributed Transactional Memory, OPODIS 2009; Location-A
ware Cache-Coherence Protocols for Distributed Transactional Contention Mana
gement in Metric-Space Networks, SRDS 2009. The project's goals are to devel
op abstractions, algorithms, and mechanisms for distributed TM and roll out
distributed TM infrastructure software---i.e., run-times, virtual machines,
and OSes.
Students with prior research experience in OSes, virtual machines, compilers
, networking, and distributed algorithms are sought. Prior publication recor
d is a strong plus. Interested students must apply to Virginia Tech's Gradua
te School (http://grads.vt.edu/), and are also strongly encouraged to contac
t Prof. Binoy Ravindran (binoy@vt.edu) with a CV.

I am posting this ad for my advisor. Our Physiologic Signal Processing & Modeling Laboratory is directed by Dr. Ramakrishna Mukkamala within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan State University. Our mission is to decipher the hidden information in biomedical measurements through signal processing and modeling in order to advance the basic understanding of physiology and establish improved patient monitoring systems. Our current focus is to develop and experimentally validate new physiologic-based signal processing techniques for monitoring cardiovascular function.
Research Assistant position in our lab is now available for Spring Semester 2010. Qualified candidates should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in electrical/electronic/biomedical engineering from a top Chinese university with a good GPA/standing, are interested in biomedical signal processing, and would like to pursue a Ph.D. degree. My advisor is an associate professor with great enthusiasm in research. He has a good vision for his students and is always helpful in directing them. Ph.D. students from our lab usually graduate in 3~4 years (with Master’s Degree) or 4~5 years (with Bachelor’s Degree).
Our lab website is www.egr.msu.edu/pspml if you need more information. Interested candidates should send his/her resume/CV and transcript to Xiaoxiao Chen (chenxia7@msu.edu). Selected candidates will receive a phone interview from Dr. Mukkamala.

8. 标 题: PHD Openings at ECE@NJIT Spring'10
发信站: 水木社区 (Sun Aug 30 23:10:45 2009), 站内
Dr. Zhang at the ECE department of New Jersey Institute of
Technology is looking for self-motivated, easy-going PhD students who are
strongly committed to research for Spring'10 (preferred) and Fall'10. An
earned MS/ME degree before enrollment is a must. The successful candidates
are expected to conduct research in network and distributed system security, wireless networking, and mobile computing.
If you are interested, please send your resume, transcripts, TOEFL and GRE
scores, publications, and everything else that you believe will help your
application to yczhang@njit.edu. Prior research experience is a plus but is
not absolutely necessary. Dr. Zhang and his group members are more
interested in working with students who are responsible, brilliant, with
solid background, and have curiosity and determination to explore the path
to develop himself/herself into an outstanding researcher. General inquiries on position availability etc. without any substantial application material for evaluation will not be answered.
NJIT is situated in the New York metropolitan area, just 20 minutes from Manhattan by train. For more details about this position and the research of Dr. Zhang's group, please visit http://web.njit.edu/~yczhang.
