Ben Taub doctor shot during robbery near grocery(zz,houston chronicle)

A doctor at Ben Taub General Hospital was shot Thursday evening during an apparent robbery outside a supermarket near the Texas Medical Center, Houston police said.
The doctor, who has not been identified, was shot about 6:30 p.m. as she struggled with an attacker in the parking lot of a Kroger grocery on Old Spanish Trail at Cambridge, officers at the scene said.
She had just left the grocery and had gotten into her car when the gunman attacked. Police said he tried to pull her out of the car, then began firing.
One of the bullets shattered a passenger window of the woman's car. Her lab coat, stained with blood, remained on the driver's seat after she was taken to the hospital.
An off-duty Harris County deputy constable who was working a part-time security job at the grocery arrested a man.
He was carrying the gun believed to have been used in the shooting, police said.
He was in handcuffs when Houston police crime scene specialists tested his hands for gunpowder residue.
The doctor was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.
