7、"The video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life that it has become a more important form of documentation than written records."
Key word: video camera, accurate, convincing, written records, important
Core: Is video camera more important than written records?
我的提纲:
1. 书目记录很重要、不可或缺(历史、经济、政治、文化);(设想没有文字记录只有video camera的社会)
2. 相反,没有video camera的社会只要还有书面记录就仍能运作;
3. 对比video camera和written records,并指出它对社会的危害
数码相机重要1准确 2便捷 3大容量 4 价格便宜 5 方便交流复制(从性能上来说) 6 也促进了信息多元化,加速了信息社会的发展;
(1) 人们有了video camera就懒于思考;
(2) 图像成为了传播暴力等不良信息的绝佳途径;
The video camera may serve as a key of broadening people’s horizen and leading them to a vivid information world. In spite of its great contribution, is video camera more important than written records? Contraversial as the topic might be, my answer is no. At least so far, video camera cannot surpass written records from the degree of importance for human beings.
With a several thousand years history, the written records have reached a indispensable stage in human society. From a small label of a gum to the country’s essential laws, all aspects of human life is inseperable from written records. Supposedly, if the written records are rejected by human beings currently, what would the world be? First of all, all the labels and specifications of products disappear. Instead, people have to take hours watching a video records of products description so as to decide to buy a toothbrush or not. Lawofficers have to watch a video records for days so as to understand a certain law about garbage recycle. More seriously, a majority of people in developing countries, who take up more than half of human population on Earth, have no access to contemporary knowledge for the simple reason that they cannot afford the expensive video players, letting the polarization between the rich and the poor even severer. Besides, the speed of social development starts to slow down since everyone is busy of recording or watch videos. As can be seen, without the information-refined, brief written records, the whole human society will fall into a disastrous confusion even with the help of video cameras.
On the other hand, can people live without video cameras. Maybe a bit uncomfortable, still, the answer is yes. Just as the history can prove, human beings had live a much longer period without video cameras, compared with the recent rise of video cameras.
Nevertheless, video cameras play an essential role in contemporary times. As is known to all, in the aspects of recording the original appearance of things, almost nothing can be matched with video cameras. They offer accurate, dynamic pictures of lives, more vivid and convincing than any human paintings. Compared with the slow pressing speed, a video just needs serveral minutes to be uploaded to the Internet and shared in just hours by millions of people all around the world. Thanks to its amazing quality, a citizen in China, Guangzhou is able to watch the primitive life of African aborigines for the first minute and then explore the whales in South Pole at the second minute. All in all, video cameras not only broaden our horizen, but accelerate the process of information diversification. In this regard, the written records is slightly inferior to video camera.
What should cause everyone’s attention is the fatal flaw of video cameras on human society. Different from written records, video records are more vivid and comprehensible as mentioned above, but in the same way, it discourages people to ruminate independently but just to absorb what is presented in front of them, which should be a dangerours sympton to the human society. Just leave aside the probability of slowing down the development of technology. More serious problems would arise if people are losing the independent thinking. For instance, people might graduagely turn to be numb and insensitive towards social ills or injustice but just regard the news as a fact and this process might already start. Cite a news as an example: recently in Nanjin, an old man fell when getting off the bus. Not to mention that nobody comes up to help him, it sounds more riduculous that the elder apologized to other passengers of delaying their time. Such phenomenon might not be a direct result of excessive videos, but the fact that videos could impose negative influence on people’s independent thinking and concern for society is undeniable. On the contrary, written records are not so easy to understand, whose deep-seated meanings will cost them long time concentration and rumination to grasp, which, on the other hand, serves as a effective way to strengthen people’s capability of independent thinking. Furthermore, while the video cameras accelerate the information diffusion, a large quantity of negative ones, like violence, started to invade the innocent children.
As the rise of video cameras, human beings are now entering a more colorful but dangerous place. Compared with written records, video cameras indisputably possess their own merits. When it comes to the importance towards human society, however, it could be irrational to regard video cameras more important than written records.
(感觉自己的结构很混乱,尤其是倒数第二段,应该要分隔开来。不过现在得先去上课,可能要等到九点四十分才能回来,希望组长原谅啊!) |
