ISSUE172“Important truths begin as outrageous, or at least uncomfortable, attacks upon the accepted wisdom of the time”

The speaker's assertion contends that before finally becoming improtant, a truth would unavoidablly suffer a outrageous time and usually make public uncomfortable,even carry the charge of attacking the accepted wisdom of the time. Insofar I agree with it, in the light of particular characteristics of newborn truths, which differ from established wisdom,and habitual mode of thinking of human.However, in my perspective, a contrary view conceals the argument's ill-conceived and peripheral thinking ,while considering the succession of truth development and acceptance ability for the novelty of public .


Admittedly, natal truths at the beginning are surely marked for the characteristic of being out of common, especially the ones ultimately becoming important.Simultaneously, the people ,who customarily thinking in an established way, are difficult to escape from uncomfortable impression of newborn theories.Both the peculiar feature of newborn truth its own and unavoidable human fallibility cause that a truth is destine for a severe scrutiny before being important. The world is replete with historical examples.Darwin's "natural election" theory, for example, was trapped in a delimma in its beginning period.The Church of England scientific establishment reacted against the book of the Origin of Species, even Darwin's friend,Huxley, was originally suspicious and uncomfortable to "development theory" as evolution was once called. Let alone in nowadays,Darwin's theory can still not be totally accepted by some religious groups,although the "natural election"theory retains a significant place as one of speculations which explain human's initial life origin.


In the contrary, I would emphasize on that finally important truths do not necessarily meet a harsh situation at the beginning, while taking the succession of knowledge development into account.Instead of being contradicted against the accepted wisdom, most truths establish on a basis of previous scientific mainstream and have a lot in common with established theories ,they can also be accepted easily by the public after being published.For instance,Isaac Newton's calculus-related theory, which provided a distinct set of rules for manipulating infinitesimal quantities and created the product rule, then chained rules in their differential and integral forms, allowing the computation of second and higher derivatives, standed on the shoulder of giants like Descartes and contacted well with previous calculus system , like a creek derives naturally from a river, instead of being outrageous.Futhermore,the public would like to accept Newton's contribution in the aspect of mathmetics of their own accord rather than feel uncomfortable or suspicious.


On the other hand, the speaker's assertion obviously reverse the general order when it comes to identify newborn things and underestimate the fact that initial impression will be changed as time goes by . It is impossible that people would feel uncomfortable at the first glance of natal truth,before having a fixed impression, people hold certainly more curiosity and interest than abomination in a truth's early days.Moreover, the public would reduce their uncomfortable point of view if they found the truth suitably cater to their practical needs over time.Nuclear-technology theory can well illustrate my viewpoint.Just imaging the Japanese must be curious about nuclear-technology and relative theory before Hiroshima being nearly razed to the ground during the War Two,then not only being uncomfortable, but also trembling with fear would Japanese people have an antipathy of nuclear products.But conditions change with age, nowadays,nuclear technology and relative knowledge are widely used in Japan because of its lack of energy,automatically, once newborn truth now become more significant.

In sum, i agree in principle that an ultimately important truth may suffer a former harsh period, for its unconventional characteristics and accomplished bias come form humanity. Yet considering  that truth starts from a higher stage and owns a new content,which is based upon established truth ,is necessary. Thus important truths, as far as i concerned,are in harmony with accepted wisdom of the time,but not outrageous and aggressive. Furthermore, important truths will finally realize their values as time goes by.
