ISSUE11 - "All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."

The suggestion that College students should be taught to take participates in the process of solving some global social issues is a beneficial measure that can bring a lot to the society. I hold the same opinion with the speaker; what’s more, I think that the issue which the students are engaged in is not only the most persistent social problems but the whole social problems. For supporting my point I will give three reasons to express why we should support the students join in the process.

To begin with, I should stress what are the responsibilities for a global university in the new 21st century. Along the time stepping into a new era, the world becomes a significantly complex village. Any slight change taking place in the world will bring a far-reaching effect to the society. It means that the national social problems are not politicians’ game far away from our daily lives anymore, but that every person has the responsibility to care about the current social affairs. The university should emphasize the importance of training her students to become new-style talents or leaders which should pay attention to the worldwide social problems in order to suit for the needs of the world. That is the difference between the university and the college which stresses more on the job trained personal aspects than inter-disciplinary talent aspects. That is one of the responsibilities for a global university in the new era.

Secondly, as the students represent the future of their own nation, supporting the development of the global university which is mentioned by the speaker will benefit the whole countries. Which talent the society needs is the one who has the social obligation to care about others’ lives. If the talent was cold-blooded and doesn’t care about the society or people, he or she may become a criminal which will damage the country. Especially when he plays an important role in the country like a chief of a state, he may cause the war and break peace in the world.

At last, the process which the students should take participates in is not only solving the world’s most persistent social problems but also solving the daily-life social problems. As the butterfly effect was proved to be existed in the society and most students will exert themselves to carry out their values in the daily life, sometimes a small change taking place in the daily life may bring more effect to the world than a worldwide current affairs happens. Only a few students will at a key position in the society eventually but more and more students work in different jobs. Training the major groups may help the society evolve to a better one.

To sum up, I agree with what the speaker concludes and all nations supporting to the development of the global university will benefit not only the individuals themselves but also the whole society and the world.
