TOPIC: ISSUE243 - "The true value of a civilization is reflected in its artistic creations rather than in its scientific accomplishments."

Is the true value of a civilization is reflected in its artistic creations rather than in its scientific accomplishments, as the statement claims? In response to this issue, we need to analyze the question scientifically and methodically. In a sense, I agree to the extent that artistic creations are of vital importance to the existence of the civilization. However, both science and art are critical to define the value of civilization and a comprehensive deliberation is needed when deciding preference.

Primarily, there is no denying the fact that the creation of arts has given rise to the most spectacular development in both philosophy and other humanities. We would feel surrounded by the thoughts and emotions while appreciating both classical and avant-garde masterpieces. Picasso, the Cubist, has depicted a world of torment in his Guernica, which expressed a mockery to the wars through human history.

Despite the merits of the speaker's contention, however, I disagree with the claim that the significance of art outweighs that of the science.
We all know that, with all the material wealth we have accumulated, we can live a passable, even a well-to-do life, but we are also fully aware that life of this kind is not the best. Therefore, we travel into the unknown depth of the universe to explore its mysteries and we undertake perilous expeditions to the South Pole under the hope of discovering alternative energy sources to compensate for those which we have, but which are depleting at an alarming rate. Every single scientific accomplishment is invariably the a step forward to the human civilization.

Finally, and perhaps the most essentially, the speaker seems to fail to take into account the fact that although artistic creation serves to sublime human spirit, it is the development of science and technology that have made our world a different realm of existence. Just like building a house, the development of science is the ground work and the artistic creation, on the other hand, is the delicate ornament on the building. While the ornament is gorgeous and maybe aromatic, the groundwork lays a foundation for the whole skyscraper of the civilization.

From the analysis made above, I commit to the optimum approach that we need to seek a balance and take an all-side consideration. Without artistic creation, we will lose heart on the road ahead; without the development of science, we would have remained some unenlightened species lurking in the unfriendly forest and hostile wildness.

Despite the merits of the speaker's contention(这个词一般是指争论中的论点,我觉得用proposition, views可能更好), however, I disagree with the claim that the significance of art outweighs that of the science.

写这个issue时我很纠结啊,不知道怎么写,后来参考北美范文,说来惭愧,我那篇基本都是北美范文上抄的

Is the true value of a civilization [少了which] is reflected in its artistic creations rather than in its scientific accomplishments, as the statement claims? In response to this issue, we need to analyze the question scientifically and methodically. In a sense, I agree to the[some?] extent that artistic creations are of vital importance to the existence of the civilization. However, both science and art are critical to define the value of civilization and a comprehensive deliberation is needed when deciding preference.
Primarily,
there is no denying the fact that the creation of arts has given rise to the most spectacular development in both philosophy and other humanities. We would feel surrounded by the thoughts and emotions while appreciating both classical and avant-garde masterpieces. Picasso, the Cubist, has depicted a world of torment in his Guernica, which expressed a mockery[牛津上的例子:made a mockery of sth.] to the wars through human history.
Despite the merits of the speaker's contention, however, I disagree with the claim that the significance of art outweighs that of the science.
We all know that, with all the material wealth we have accumulated, we can live a
passable, even a well-to-do life, but we are also fully aware that life of this kind is not the best. Therefore, we travel into the unknown depth of the universe[我觉得这个词组的中心是depth,而你想表达的中心词应该是universe吧?] to explore its mysteries and we undertake perilous expeditions to the South Pole under the hope of discovering alternative energy sources to compensate for those which we have, but which are depleting at an alarming rate.[这句话不错~] Every single scientific accomplishment is invariably the a [奇怪?]step forward to the human civilization.
While the ornament is gorgeous and maybe aromatic[这个词用在这里有点怪异。。。], the groundwork lays a foundation for the whole skyscraper of the civilization.
From the analysis made above, I commit to the optimum approach that we need to seek a balance and take an all-side consideration.
Without artistic creation, we will lose heart on the road ahead; without the development of science, we would have remained some unenlightened species lurking in the unfriendly forest and hostile wildness.
你很喜欢用比喻的手法啊。。。写得不错,特别佩服你是限时写的~
